How Program‐ and Community‐Led Design Settings Affect Resilience Approaches to Sustainable Development Projects

open access: yesSustainable Development, Volume 34, Issue 6, Page 8789-8804, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Sustainable Development interventions must deal with rapid and novel changes affecting complex social‐ecological systems, calling for design based on a resilience approach. However, limited analytical attention has been paid to the design settings in which such approaches are deployed.

Social‐Ecological Drivers of Cropland Productivity Dynamics for Sustainable Intensification

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Sustainably enhancing cropland productivity is critical for global food security, yet its drivers within complex social‐ecological systems remain poorly understood. Conventional analyses often miss the cross‐scale, non‐linear dynamics that shape productivity, leading to ineffective policies.

Patterns and Drivers of Mercury Accumulation in Croplands, a Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 131, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Mercury (Hg) is a potent neurotoxin that poses risks to human and environmental health, particularly in regions influenced by anthropogenic Hg emissions. Although Hg emissions have declined across North America and Europe following regulatory controls and phase‐outs, emissions remain elevated in some regions due to activities such as artisanal

Spatially Explicit Biochar Deployment Enhances Food Security and Advances Carbon Neutrality in China's Staple Crops

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Biochar offers significant potential to improve soil quality, enhance crop productivity, and alleviate environmental risks, all of which are central to sustainable food systems under global change. However, realizing these benefits at scale requires strategic, spatially explicit deployment that considers complex soil‐crop‐climate‐biochar ...

Management‐Driven Effects in Soil Physicochemical Properties and Microbial Communities in Eastern Amazonian Agroforests

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 5, October 2026.
Agroforestry management effects on soil microbiota were assessed in Eastern Amazon systems. Soil properties were similar, but microbiomes differed with management practices. Organic inputs reduced phytopathogenic fungi and promoted beneficial microbial taxa. Chemically managed systems showed signs of stress‐associated microbial shifts.
