Infection with the helminth Schistosoma mansoni can cause exacerbated morbidity and mortality via a pathogenic host CD4 T cell-mediated immune response directed against parasite egg antigens, with T helper (Th) 17 cells playing a major role in the ...

This study shows that 8 weeks of high‐intensity interval training (HIIT) modulate inflammasome‐related gene expression in individuals with obesity. HIIT increased AIM2, MEFV, CARD16 and CARD18 expression, with CARD16 upregulation supporting reduced inflammation through inhibition of caspase‐1 activation and lower IL‐1β levels.

AimPrevious studies have proved that inhibiting inflammasome activation provides neuroprotection against early brain injury (EBI) after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), which is mainly focused on the microglial inflammatory response, but the potential role

Inflammation-induced DNA damage and damage-induced inflammation: a vicious cycle [PDF]
Inflammation is the ultimate response to the constant challenges of the immune system by microbes, irritants or injury. The inflammatory cascade initiates with the recognition of microorganism-derived pathogen associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and ...

Innate Immunity: Cytoplasmic DNA Sensing by the AIM2 Inflammasome [PDF]
Cytoplasmic double-stranded DNA triggers cell death and secretion of the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1beta in macrophages. Recent reports now describe the mechanism underlying this observation. Upon sensing of DNA, the HIN-200 family member AIM2 triggers the assembly of the inflammasome, culminating in caspase-1 activation, IL-1beta maturation and ...

AIM2 controls microglial inflammation to prevent experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis
The role of the PYHIN family member absent in melanoma 2 (AIM2), another important inflammasome sensor, in EAE remains unclear. In this study, we found that AIM2 negatively regulates the pathogenesis of EAE independent of inflammasome activation. AIM2 deficiency enhanced microglia activation and infiltration of peripheral immune cells into the CNS ...

Abstract In the context of current global change, variations in water temperature are one of the environmental conditions with serious consequences for marine life, including reproductive processes. In the small spotted catshark Scyliorhinus canicula, spermatogenesis occurs in spermatocysts composed of synchronously developing germ cells associated ...
