Abstract. This study evaluated a retrofit air-assisted sprayer, a conventional axial-fan air-blast sprayer, and a multifan vertical air-blast sprayer for their application efficiency in citrus orchards. Field experiments involved three spray application treatments (three sprayers) replicated three times.

Crop Protection, 1988
Abstract The biological efficiency of a medium-volume (350 l/ha), air-assisted cross-flow sprayer was compared with that of a conventional high-volume (2000 l/ha), hydraulic sprayer for the control of raspberry aphids on red raspberry ( Rubus idaeus ) in eastern Scotland, using the contact and stomach-acting insecticide, fenitrothion.

Unimpeded Air Velocity Profiles of an Air-Assisted Five-Port Sprayer
Transactions of the ASABE, 2012A capability that relies on tree structure information to control the flow rates of liquid and air is the preferential design in the development of variable-rate orchard and nursery sprayers. Unimpeded air jet velocities from an air-assisted, five-port sprayer in an open field were measured at four heights above ground, seven distances up to 3 m from ...

Design and development of air assisted intra canopy sprayer for cotton and pigeonpea
Agricultural Research Journal, 2018Uniform distribution and deposition of chemical application from top to bottom of plant canopy and on the undersides of the leaves is of utmost importance for effective control of pests. An intra canopy sprayer was designed consisting of nine nozzles to spray from top, middle and bottom to cover three rows for spraying where spray solution is so ...

A simulation study of pesticide drift from an air-assisted orchard sprayer
Journal of Agricultural Engineering Research, 1992In this paper a random-walk atmospheric dispersion model is used to examine the problem of pesticide drift from a radial flow air-assisted orchard sprayer. The spray source is represented in the model as an extended source surface close to the sprayer but remote from the influence of the mean forced air from the sprayer.

Use of an Air-Assisted Electrostatic Sprayer to Increase Pesticide Efficiency in Greenhouses
1989The spraying system described in this paper uses air and electrostatics to deliver small drops (20 um Dv0.5) to the target. The use of this system in greenhouses is especially attractive since air movement can be controlled and drift is contained. It has been found that charged drops are collected more efficiently by, and distributed more evenly upon ...

Development of an Electric Variable Air Assist System for Apple Orchard Sprayers
Journal of the ASABEHighlights Electric air assist system was developed with electric fans, pulse width modulation (PWM) controllers, a custom-designed air channel, and a battery. Adjusting PWM duty cycles from 0% to 100% achieved average exit air velocities from 0 to 11.3 m s-1 ...
