Investigation of the Uniformity of Gel Shrinkage by Imaging Tracer Particles Using X‐Ray Microtomography

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
A novel method for tracking structural changes in gels using widely accessible microcomputed tomography is presented and validated for various hydro‐, alco‐, and aerogels. The core idea of the method is to track positions of micrometer‐sized tracer particles entrapped in the gel and relate them to the density of the gel network.

Air Conditioning and Heat-related Mortality

open access: yesEpidemiology, 2020
Supplemental Digital Content is available in the text. Background: Air conditioning has been proposed as one of the key factors explaining reductions of heat-related mortality risks observed in the last decades. However, direct evidence is still limited.

An investigation of air and water dual adjustment decoupling control of surface heat exchanger [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The terminal equipment of central cooling system accounts for a significant proportion of the total system's energy consumption. Therefore, it is important to reduce the terminal equipment energy consumption in central air conditioning system.

Comparative assessment of different air‐conditioning systems for nearly/net zero‐energy buildings

open access: yesInternational Journal of Energy Research, 2020
This study deals with the performance of different air‐conditioning strategies for achieving the target of nearly/net zero energy in a medium‐scale building under various environmental conditions. In particular, vapour compression (VC), vapour absorption

Modeling and Thermodynamic Analysis of Solar Collector Cogeneration for Residential Building Energy Supply

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, 2022
Concerns about limited energy resources and environmental problems are growing. One of the solutions to increase energy efficiency is to produce it sparsely. In this regard, cogeneration systems are of particular importance. The home sector is one of the

PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF A SOLAR-DRIVEN EJECTOR AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM UNDER EL-OUED CLIMATIC CONDITIONS, ALGERIA

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Engineering, 2020
In order to understand the behavior and to determine the effective operational parameters of a solar-driven ejector air conditioning system at low or medium temperature, a dynamic model depends on the principles of conservation, the momentum mass and ...

Implementation of greywater heat recovery system in hospitals [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
The constant demand for domestic hot water (DHW) creates great opportunity for drain water heat recovery (DWHR) systems in hospitals, so there is an enormous potential to reduce energy consumption in accordance to the EU environmental policy.

The Optimal Design of Heat Sinks: A Review [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied and Computational Mechanics, 2020
Heat sinks are used in industrial equipment to dissipate the excess heat from their heat-generating parts to the ambient. In the last few years, efforts on manufacturing electronic or mechanical devices with less weight, space, and lower cost were spent.

Cooling NZ: institutional drivers behind the growth in air-conditioning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Cooling by air-conditioning in buildings has been claimed to be addictive to the occupants. But for every addict there is ‘pusher’ who has introduced and supplies the product.

Outdoor‐air design conditions relating to the capacity of air‐conditioning systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Energy Research, 2000
In this paper we present work involving the processing of climatic data relating to some Italian cities, taken from a set of data known as European ‘test reference year’ (TRY). We aim to make a critical comparison of the thermohygrometric conditions of outdoor air in the summer season thus obtained with those design conditions as laid down by Italian ...
