A single case is reported of a severely hearing-impaired child with a finding of a large air-bone gap on pure-tone audiometry on multiple tests. Exploratory surgery found normal middle ear function. Subsequent audiometry indicated the presence of a false air-bone gap resulting from vibrotactile responses.

Air Gaps for Electrical Interconnections
Electrochemical and Solid-State Letters, 1999The fabrication of air-gap structures for electrical interconnections has been demonstrated using a sacrificial polymer encapsulated in conventional dielectric materials. The air-gap is formed by thermally decomposing the sacrificial polymer and allowing the byproducts to diffuse through the encapsulating dielectric.

This paper describes a solution to build a scalable means to perform remote live forensics, which introduces minimal and traceable changes to the air-gap systems. The solution can respect the air-gap and not introduce network connectivity to the air-gap systems.

ESD Susceptibility of Submicron Air Gaps
Microelectronics Reliability, 2006This work describes the investigation of the ESD susceptibility of submicron air gaps which are used e.g. in filter devices. The breakdown behaviour of the air gaps is analyzed in both the HBM (Human Body Model) time domain and the CDM (Charged Device Model) time domain.

2018 IEEE East-West Design & Test Symposium (EWDTS), 2018A microstrip antenna with an air gap was designed. The possibilities of reducing the size of a printed radiator by means of the bending of the antenna and gap heterogeneities are investigated. The frequency and angular dependences of the ellipticity coefficient of a single radiator are calculated.
