Self-aeration development and fully cross-sectional air diffusion in high-speed open channel flows

Journal of Hydraulic Research, 2022
Self-aeration in open channel flows occurs owing to free surface air entrainment. Self-aeration development and fully cross-sectional distribution of air concentration are not thoroughly understood.

On the Speed of Sound in Air

The Physics of Fluids, 1959
In a high-temperature gas, the speed of sound depends upon the chemical composition, sound frequency, and chemical reaction rates. Two limiting sound speeds are normally distinguished: that of ``frozen'' or constant chemical composition, and the ``equilibrium'' sound speed.

High-speed Rail's impact on airline demand and air carbon emissions in China

, 2021
We construct an extensive data set comprising all air and high-speed rail (HSR) routes in China. We estimate that commercial air travel emits seven times the carbon emissions per passenger kilometer than HSR. Results demonstrate a strong link between air

The effects of atmospheric stability with low wind speed and of air pollution on the accelerated transmission dynamics of COVID-19

, 2020
The goal of this study is to explain the relation among atmospheric stability/turbulence (considering wind speed), air pollution and the spread of COVID-19 to provide insights into environmental risk factors of specific regions.

A Fluidic Low-Speed Air-Speed Indicator

Journal of Aircraft, 1970
Crossflow and parallel flow techniques were investigated. The parallel flow technique was chosen. A prototype has been wind-tunnel tested. It has a near linear response from 0.3 to 90 fps. This sensor is light in weight, simple in operation and has no moving parts. Efforts are underway to optimize the sensor performance and develop a flightworthy unit.

Speed Control for the Air-Driven Centrifuge

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1947
A method based on some work of Thomas Davis is described for controlling the rotor speed of an air-driven ultracentrifuge. A permanent magnet mounted on the shaft of the centrifuge induces an e.m.f. in a series inductance, capacity resistance circuit which has the same frequency as the rotor.
