Spectral characterization of plant diversity in a biodiversity‐enriched oil palm plantation
How well can airborne imaging spectroscopy detect plant diversity in vertically complex agroforestry systems? We tested this in a biodiversity‐enriched oil palm plantation in Sumatra, Indonesia, using high‐resolution hyperspectral data. We calculated spectral alpha and beta diversity and compared them to field‐based plant diversity.

Ground‐truthing of satellite imagery to assess seabird colony size: A test using Adélie penguins
Adélie penguin colony size can be estimated from space using very high‐resolution (VHR; 0.3–0.6 m resolution) satellite imagery due to the contrast between their guano stain and the surrounding terrain. Our study assessed the utility of VHR imagery for making indirect assessments of changes in colony size.

Time‐series airborne imagery can potentially track individuals over time to collect information beyond one‐off counts. Using weekly UAS‐based imagery of wading bird colonies, we develop an automated approach to identifying nests.
