Arsenic trioxide, a potent inhibitor of NF-κB, abrogates allergen-induced airway hyperresponsiveness and inflammation

open access: yesRespiratory Research, 2006
Background Overactivation of nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) orchestrates airway eosinophilia, but does not dampen airway hyperresponsiveness in asthma. NF-κB repression by arsenic trioxide (As2O3) contributes to apoptosis of eosinophils (EOS) in airways. Here

Vertical sleeve gastrectomy associates with airway hyperresponsiveness in a murine model of allergic airway disease and obesity

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2023
IntroductionAsthma is a chronic airway inflammatory disease marked by airway inflammation, remodeling and hyperresponsiveness to allergens. Allergic asthma is normally well controlled through the use of beta-2-adrenergic agonists and inhaled ...

Family and twin studies on methacholine hypersensitivity

open access: yesAllergology International, 1998
Essentially all asthmatics demonstrate a marked sensitivity to inhaled methacholine and histamine, termed non-specific bronchial (airway) hyperresponsiveness (BHR).

気管支肺胞洗浄液中リンパ球増多と患者年齢およびIgE系アレルギー反応との関連について [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The proportion and number of lymphocytes in the airways were analyzed in 15 patients with a high proportion of lymphocytes in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid (more than 30%) and in 17 patients with less than 20% of BAL lymphocytes. 1.

Improvement of Pulmonary Function by Oral Treatment with a VLA-4 Antagonist in a Mouse Asthmatic Model

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2013
We investigated in vivo efficacies of the newly synthesized VLA-4 antagonist Compound A {trans-4-[1-[[2,5-Dichloro-4-(1-methyl-3-indolylcarboxamido)phenyl]acetyl]-(4S)-methoxy-(2S)-pyrrolidinylmethoxy]cyclohexanecarboxylic acid} on Ascaris antigen ...

Mechanism of Lower Airway Hyperresponsiveness Induced by Allergic Rhinitis

open access: yesJournal of Immunology Research, 2022
Allergic rhinitis is a global illness that puzzles many researchers. Most patients with allergic rhinitis also have lower airway hyperresponsiveness, and an allergic rhinitis attack can increase lower airway hyperresponsiveness. However, the mechanism of

CD38/cADPR Signaling Pathway in Airway Disease: Regulatory Mechanisms

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2018
Asthma is an inflammatory disease in which proinflammatory cytokines have a role in inducing abnormalities of airway smooth muscle function and in the development of airway hyperresponsiveness.

Effects of Thymus vulgaris L., Cinnamomum verum J.Presl and Cymbopogon nardus (L.) Rendle Essential Oils in the Endotoxin-induced Acute Airway Inflammation Mouse Model

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
Thyme (TO), cinnamon (CO), and Ceylon type lemongrass (LO) essential oils (EOs) are commonly used for inhalation. However, their effects and mechanisms on inflammatory processes are not well-documented, and the number of in vivo data that would be ...

A transcriptome-driven analysis of epithelial brushings and bronchial biopsies to define asthma phenotypes in U-BIOPRED [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: Asthma is a heterogeneous disease driven by diverse immunologic and inflammatory mechanisms. We used transcriptomic profiling of airway tissues to help define asthma phenotypes. METHODS: The transcriptome from bronchial biopsies

KCNJ2 is Required for NLRP3 Inflammasome Activation That Drives Allergic Airway Inflammation and Remodeling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study aims to evaluate the impact of the potassium channel KCNJ2 on asthma development. KCNJ2 promotes NLRP3 inflammasome activation through both Ca2+ influx and K+ efflux in airway epithelial cells, which drives allergic airway inflammation and remodeling, suggesting a promising therapeutic target for asthma.
