A poroelastic model coupled to a fluid network with applications in lung modelling [PDF]
Here we develop a lung ventilation model, based a continuum poroelastic representation of lung parenchyma and a 0D airway tree flow model. For the poroelastic approximation we design and implement a lowest order stabilised finite element method. This component is strongly coupled to the 0D airway tree model. The framework is applied to a realistic lung

3D culture of MSCs upregulates gene expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), growth factors (GFs), and increases the production of extracellular vesicles (EVs). Proteomic analysis reveals 642 upregulated proteins in 3D‐EVs, including HGF. These 3D‐EVs, enriched with HGF, protect lung epithelial cells from apoptosis and barrier damage in septic ...

COPD aggravates AS, possibly through the destruction of pulmonary microvascular barrier function; thus, lung inflammation triggers systemic inflammation. In treating COPD with AS, TXL enhances the antiatherosclerotic effect of Ato, protecting the pulmonary microvascular barrier.

Using the MOSTtechnology and whole‐liver Nissl staining method, a multi‐structural 3D pathological panorama of liver fibrosis is obtained. The damaged sinusoids, steatotic hepatocytes, and collagen deposition are all concentrated in pericentral areas.

In this work, we demonstrated that PUM70 specifically suppressed LPS‐mediated inflammatory responses. Notably, PUM70 treatment inhibited LPS‐induced lung damage, pro‐inflammatory cytokine production, and reduced macrophage infiltration in the lungs. Mechanistically, PUM70 suppressed LPS‐induced inflammation and oxidative stress via the Nrf2/HO‐1 and ...

Adequate contact between the intubation tube and the vocal cord muscles is crucial for effective intraoperative nerve monitoring use during esophagectomy. Additionally, intraoperative posture significantly affects diagnostic outcomes and should be carefully considered.

Upper airway obstruction is a potentially life-threatening emergency often encountered in the acute care, perioperative, and critical care settings. One important complication of acute obstruction is negative-pressure pulmonary edema (NPPE).

Geometric tree kernels: Classification of COPD from airway tree geometry [PDF]
Methodological contributions: This paper introduces a family of kernels for analyzing (anatomical) trees endowed with vector valued measurements made along the tree. While state-of-the-art graph and tree kernels use combinatorial tree/graph structure with discrete node and edge labels, the kernels presented in this paper can include geometric ...

Children With 22.Q.11.2 Deletion Syndrome: Sleep‐Disordered Breathing and Management
ABSTRACT Patients with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11DS) are predisposed to obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) due to an abnormal craniofacial anatomy with pharyngeal hypotonia, retrognathia, micrognathia, and glossoptosis. The aim of the study was to describe the prevalence and management of OSA in a cohort of children with 22q11DS.
