Safety and pharmacokinetics of inhaled aloxistatin: A first‐in‐human phase 1 dose escalation trial
Aims Aloxistatin (E64d) is a membrane‐permeable cysteine protease inhibitor prodrug that is converted by esterases to the active metabolite E64c (loxistatin). This first‐in‐human study evaluated the safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics of single ascending doses of inhaled E64d in healthy volunteers.

Integrating chemo‐mechanical cues in nano‐microscale environments for stem cell regulation
Nano/microscale control strategies, including nano/microscale materials, ligand spacings, and cell encapsulating gels, cell mechanics, integrin signaling, and biochemical cues to direct stem cell fate, tissue regeneration, and organoid engineering, enabling advanced biomedical applications through mechanoregulation at cell‐material interfaces ...

Neuroplasticity and neuroimmune interactions with type 2 inflammation in asthma
The lungs are innervated by both afferent and efferent nerve fibres that regulate key respiratory functions, including the cough reflex, airway tone, mucus secretion, and the detection of mechanical and chemical stimuli.

Abstract Background Fibrillins provide a scaffold for elastic fiber formation, which enables lung recoil and aortic compliance. Abnormal fibrillin microfibrils, as in Marfan syndrome, lead to enlarged alveoli, vascular stiffening, and aneurysms. Our earlier studies suggested that fibrillin function depends on O‐glucosylation of its epidermal growth ...

Biomarkers of lung congestion and injury in acute heart failure
Abstract Acute heart failure (AHF) classification and management are primarily based on lung congestion and/or hypoperfusion. The quantification of the vascular and tissue lung damage is not standard practice though biomarkers of lung injury may play a relevant role in this context.

Abstract Background Antimicrobials are commonly prescribed for the treatment of equine asthma, despite limited evidence supporting their use. Tracheal wash (TW) bacterial culture results are known to influence antimicrobial prescription decisions. Objectives To determine whether a positive TW bacterial culture in horses with asthma is associated with ...

Chronic allergen exposure induces airway inflammation and remodelling.
Mice were challenged with OVA for up to 18 weeks (Figure 1, Protocol A) and analysed for airway inflammation, as determined by (A) BALF cell counts and morphometric quantification of peribronchial inflammation.
