The Endothelial CXCR Family in Vascular Health and Disease

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Endothelial cells (ECs) form the dynamic interface between blood and tissue, serving as key regulators of vascular homeostasis, inflammation, and repair. Among the molecular systems governing endothelial behavior, the C‐X‐C motif chemokine receptor (CXCR) family—originally characterized in immunology for its roles in leukocyte trafficking and ...

Spatial transcriptomics reveals compartment-specific cytotoxic T cell crosstalk with AT2 and goblet cells in advanced COPD

open access: yesBiomarker Research
Background Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterized by chronic inflammation and structural remodelling across different anatomical structures of the lung, including airways, parenchyma, and pulmonary vessels.

High‐Sugar Diet and Intestinal Diseases: A Shared Microbiota–Barrier–Immunity–Metabolism Axis in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Food Allergy, and Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The global incidence of intestinal diseases—including food allergy, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and colorectal cancer (CRC)—continues to escalate in parallel with the expansion of the “Western diet,” within which the high‐sugar diet (HSD) has emerged as a pivotal yet under‐recognized dietary driver.

Quantitative morphology using bronchial biopsies

open access: yesEuropean Respiratory Review, 2006
Bronchoscopy with bronchial biopsies allows sampling of airway tissue in prospective clinical studies and is increasingly applied for the study of airway inflammation and remodelling.

Mechanical memory in aging: From adaptive sensing to pathological entrenchment

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
Mechanical memory in aging operates through four temporal tiers, from cytoskeletal remodeling to metabolic reprogramming. Aging disrupts this cascade through three distinct decoupling patterns: sensor degradation, conduction blockade, and execution failure, leading to irreversible pathological entrenchment across multiple organ systems.

Air Pollution Quinones Impair Intestinal Barrier Integrity and Endoplasmic Reticulum in Differentiated Caco‐2 Cells

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Particulate matter (PM) is a major global health threat, linked to millions of deaths annually. Beyond inhalation, PM components reach the gastrointestinal tract through the mucociliary escalator or contaminated food and water. Among PM's organic fraction, redox‐active quinones such as 1,2‐naphthoquinone (NQ) and 9,10‐phenanthrenequinone (PQ ...

Airway wall remodelling: the influence of corticosteroids

open access: yes, 2005
Purpose of the review: We have attempted to bring together recent findings, mainly from airway endobronchial biopsies, on the structural changes that constitute 'remodelling' in airway disease, with a particular focus on asthma. We have tried to put this
