Comparison of Haemodynamic Responses to Laryngeal Mask Airway Insertion and Laryngoscopy with Endotracheal Intubation in Adults Undergoing Elective Surgery at Muhimbili [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Airway management is of utmost importance during delivery of general anaesthesia. Traditionally, laryngoscopy and endotracheal tube (ETT) insertion has been the mainstay in providing adequate airway management and delivering anaesthesia.

Miniaturized Magnetic Tip Design for Endoluminal Vine Robot Navigation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A magnetic tip mount is designed for a miniaturized 7 mm soft‐growing vine robot to enable wireless magnetic steering and onboard imaging, while preserving a 3 mm working channel. The internal–external ring magnets design balances magnetic attachment with low eversion pressure. Experiments demonstrate ±90° steering, 34 mm bending radius, and successful

Macrophage‐to‐Myofibroblast Transdifferentiation Contributes to Pulmonary Fibrosis via the MERTK‐SPP1‐SRC‐TKS5 Signaling Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
MERTK is upregulated in fibrotic macrophages and regulates the expression and activity of SRC and TKS5 through SPP1, mediating transdifferentiation of macrophages‐to‐myofibroblasts (MMT) and promoting pulmonary fibrosis. The figure was created with BioRender.com.

Effects of propofol, desflurane, and sevoflurane on respiratory functions following endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal pituitary surgery: a prospective randomized study [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Anesthesiology, 2019
Background General anesthesia with intravenous or inhalation anesthetics reduces respiratory functions. We investigated the effects of propofol, desflurane, and sevoflurane on postoperative respiratory function tests.

Noninvasive Characterization of Tumor Heterogeneity in HNSCC: From Clinical Utility to Biological Correlates

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study establishes a CT‐based radiomics framework to quantify intratumoral heterogeneity (ITH) in HNSCC. Using unsupervised clustering, tumor ROIs and VOIs are analyzed to calculate 2D/3D ITH scores. The score shows strong predictive value for prognosis and immunotherapy response, and is associated with tumor metabolism and immune microenvironment,

Enhanced airway hyperresponsiveness in asthmatic children and mice with A(H1N1)pdm09 infection

open access: yesImmunity, Inflammation and Disease, 2021
Background Severe asthma exacerbation is an important comorbidity of the 2009 HIN1 pandemic (A(H1N1)pdm09) in asthmatic patients. However, the mechanisms underlying severe asthma exacerbation remain unknown. In this study, airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR)

THE AIRWAY RESISTANCE IN NEWBORNS [PDF]

open access: yesPediatric Research, 1975
The airway resistance was measured in normal newborns and in low birth-weight newborns without or with a difficulty with respiration. Measurements were performed with aid of the additive method, separately during inspiration and expiration. In newborns without a difficulty with respiration relations of the airway resistance or the airway conductance to

An Integrated DNA Nanoprobe for Intranuclear Imaging and in Situ Profiling of OGG1 Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The TP‐SA nanoprobe, integrating an AS1411 aptamer for nuclear delivery and a FRET array for signal amplification, enables real‐time tracking of nuclear OGG1 activity. It reveals cell‐line‐specific basal OGG1 levels and shows clinical promise using pneumonia patients’ lavage fluid.
