Erosion of AISI 4140 steel

Wear, 1987
Abstract The erosion behavior of AISI 4140 steel under various heat treatment conditions was investigated. A variety of microstructures, such as the primary and tempered martensites, varying proportions of martensite and bainite, cementite spheroids embedded in a ferrite matrix and ferrite and pearlite were obtained.

Wear behaviour of boronized and duplex-treated AISI 4140 steel against DLC-coated boronized AISI 4140 disc

Surface Engineering, 2019
Wear behaviour of the AISI 4140 steel specimens with various surface conditions was tested against the DLC-coated boronized disc of AISI 4140 steel. Specific wear rate and coefficient of friction (COF) of the as-boronized (AB) pins at 100 and 150 N loads were substantially lower than the boronized–polished (B-P) pins.

Analysis and optimisation of the cutting parameters based on machinability factors in turning AISI 4140 steel

Canadian metallurgical quarterly, 2022
AISI 4140 alloy steel has high abrasion resistance, toughness, torsional, and fatigue strength. Different types of this alloy with different hardness are used to manufacture gears, crankshafts, collars, jigs, and milling spindles.

Effects of shallow cryogenic treatment on surface characteristics and machinability factors in hard turning of AISI 4140 steel

Proceedings of the Institution of mechanical engineers. Part E, journal of process mechanical engineering, 2022
Hardened AISI 4140 steel is widely used in automotive industries due to its high strength, high hardness, and good formability. It can be subjected to cryogenic treatments to increase wear resistance, increase the toughness and decrease the residual ...

Tribocorrosion behavior of boronized AISI 4140 steel

Surface and Coatings Technology, 2018
Abstract In this study, AISI 4140 steel was boronized using powder-pack‑boronizing process, seeking to produce a monophasic iron boride (Fe2B) layer. The microstructural and chemical characteristics were evaluated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), respectively and Grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXRD).

Erosion of heat-treated AISI 4140 steel

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 1993
Solid-particle erosion was studied on AISI 4140 steel heat treated to have a Vickers hardness (Hv) of 288–650 kg mm−2. The experiments were conducted in vacuum with 143 μm Al2O3 abrasive impacting at 50–100 m s−1 at an angle of 30° or 90°. Erosion rates were nearly independent of hardness for Hv ⩽ 365 kg mm−2, but increased with hardness for Hv > 365 ...
