Characterisation of High Temperature Oxidation Phenomena during AISI 430 Stainless Steel Manufacturing under a Controlled H2 Atmosphere for Bright Annealing

open access: yesMetals, 2021
Localised-in-the-edge oxidation of four AISI 430 alloys was investigated after an industrial bright annealing process. The oxidised surface of each specimen was characterised by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Raman-spectroscopy and SEM.

Preparation of NiNbO/AISI 430 Ferritic Stainless Steel Monoliths for Catalytic Applications

open access: yesIndustrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2014
AISI 430 ferritic stainless steel was used as a substrate to make catalytic monolithic structures. To increase the surface roughness of the substrate, the steel was oxidized at temperatures in the range of 900–940 °C and times in the range of 30–120 min. The oxide layer formed was characterized.

Duplex Stainless Steel Laser‐Surface Textured: Stability in Brine Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 8, 22 April 2026.
Controlled laser‐surface treatment (LST) of duplex DSS2205 steel is performed to increase its stability in brine solution under cyclic electrochemical assays. The superior protection with respect to flat and smooth panels is attributed to the presence of FeCr2O4 as the main protective oxide layer in the LST surface, after corrosion tests. The stability

Comparison of tribological and corrosion characteristics of AISI 316Ti and AISI 430 stainless steels

open access: yesProduction Engineering Archives
Abstract This study presents an investigation into the tribological, corrosion, and tribocorrosion properties of AISI 316Ti (austenitic) and AISI 430 (ferritic) stainless steels. The comparative analysis focuses on microstructural characterization, hardness, and a series of tribological, electrochemical, and tribocorrosion tests ...

Multifaceted Behavior and Functional Versatility of Ferritic Stainless Steels, Part I: Applications and Processing, a Review

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 97, Issue 3, Page 1201-1225, March 2026.
This review investigates the processing‐microstructure‐property relationships in ferritic stainless steels (FSSs). It highlights advances in deformation behavior, heat treatments, surface modifications, and alloying effects. Theoretical models, including Johnson‐Mehl‐Avrami‐Kolmogorov, Arrhenius, nucleation theory, and diffusion theories, are discussed

Mechanically Deposited Wear‐Resistant Amorphous Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 Coatings

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 3, 4 February 2026.
Mechanically deposited from glassy ribbons, the Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 amorphous coating formed a hard, continuous layer on AISI 1010 steel, tripling substrate hardness, lowering friction, and reducing wear. Despite its rough surface, it showed friction and wear behavior comparable to the crystalline alloy, highlighting its strong potential as a durable ...
