Numerical prediction of AISI D2 punch damage

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2023
Nowadays, the punching damage tools have become widespread which greatly increased the production cost. AISI D2 punch used to make a hole through S500 MC sheet metal has premature damage. Various parameters such as high speed and non-optimized clearance are behind their failure.

Characterization of Metallurgical and Mechanical Properties of Thixowelded AISI D2 and AISI 304 Steels

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 2020
In this study, AISI D2 tool steel was thixowelded with AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel by using a direct partial remelting technique. The joining parameters (temperature, soaking time, and contact area) have been investigated by studying their effects on the mechanical and metallurgical properties of the thixowelded joint.

The Effect of Cryogenic Treatment on the Properties of AISI D2

Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2009
The tool steel AISI D2 is usually processed by vacuum hardening followed by multiple tempering cycles. Deep cold treatment in between the hardening and tempering processes could reduce processing time and improve the final properties. Blocks of AISI D2 were vacuum hardened from different austenitizing temperatures.

Investigation of boriding kinetics of AISI D2 steel

Surface Engineering, 2014
A diffusion model was suggested to analyse the growth kinetics of Fe2B layers formed on AISI D2 steel by the pack-boriding process. It was used to estimate the boron diffusion coefficients of Fe2B in the temperature range of 1123–1273 K by applying the mass balance equation at the (Fe2B/substrate) interface.

Precision radial turning of AISI D2 steel

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2008
This paper compares finite element model (FEM) simulations with experimental and analytical findings concerning precision radial turning of AISI D2 steel. FEM machining simulation employs a Lagrangian finite element-based machining model applied to predict cutting and thrust forces, cutting temperature and plastic strain distribution.

Studies on the effect of cryogenic machining of AISI D2 steel

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2021
Abstract The milling operation for an AISI D2 graded steel produces an extremely maximized heat in cutting area and it guides to several damages in the forces during cutting operation, finishing the surface of the workpiece, and life of the tool. Cryogenic metal removing operations are an eco-friendly and innovative way for the reduction of heat in ...

Characterization of Niobium Carbonitride Coating on AISI D2 Steel

Materials Science Forum, 2007
Thermo-diffusion coatings containing Nitrogen, Carbon and Niobium (N+C+Nb) on AISI D2 steel have been carried out by an initial tufftriding process followed by saturation with Niobium. The properties of the diffusion layer, namely microstructure, phase composition and micro-hardness of the Niobium carbonitride layer, have been studied. The influence of

On machining of hardened AISI D2 steel with PCBN tools

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2006
Abstract This paper describes an experimental investigation on machining of a difficult-to-cut material, AISI D2 steel of hardness 62 HRC with PCBN tools. It was found that the most feasible feeds and speeds fall in the ranges 0.08–0.20 mm/rev and 70–120 m/min, respectively and that most of the tested PCBN tools reached the end of life mainly due to ...
