Resolution of concomitant Achromobacter xylosoxidans burn wound infection without adjustment of antimicrobial therapy

open access: yesIndian Journal of Plastic Surgery, 2014
Achromobacter xylosoxidans is part of an emerging group of Gram negative bacterial infections with potentially severe sequelae, especially in the immunocompromised population such as burn patients.

Antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of unusual nonfermentative gram-negative bacilli isolated from Latin America: report from the SENTRY Antimicrobial Surveillance Program (1997-2002) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The antimicrobial susceptibility of 176 unusual non-fermentative gram-negative bacilli (NF-GNB) collected from Latin America region through the SENTRY Program between 1997 and 2002 was evaluated by broth microdilution according to the National Committee ...

The effect of essential oils and their combinations on bacteria from the surface of fresh vegetables

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 8, Issue 10, Page 5601-5611, October 2020., 2020
Is very useful to know the pathogenic strains occurrence in different geographic regions, to prevent disease occurrence in population and among the tourists, how are more susceptible to foodborne pathogens. The main goal was the detection of active antimicrobial essential oil compositions that will be used as ingredients in active packaging materials ...

Characterization of a naturally occurring class D beta-lactamase from Achromobacter xylosoxidans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A chromosomally encoded class D beta-lactamase, OXA-114, was characterized from Achromobacter xylosoxidans strain CIP69598. beta-Lactamase OXA-114 shared 56% amino acid identity with the naturally occurring class D beta-lactamase of Burkholderia ...

Bactericidal and virucidal activity of ethanol and povidone‐iodine

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 9, Issue 9, September 2020., 2020
The present study provides an overview of the bactericidal and virucidal activity of ethanol and povidone‐iodine based on a systematic literature search. Both ethanol and povidone‐iodine have an inactivating effect on bacteria and viruses depending on the concentrations used.

Phenotypic and Genetic Characterization of Carbapenemase and ESBLs Producing Gram-negative Bacteria (GNB) Isolated from Patients with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) in Tehran Hospitals [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2014
Background: Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder in white populations caused by mutation in a gene that encodes Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR) protein. Since frequent respiratory tract infections

Novel cyanide-hydrolyzing enzyme from Alcaligenes xylosoxidans subsp. denitrificans [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1991
A cyanide-metabolizing bacterium, strain DF3, isolated from soil was identified as Alcaligenes xylosoxidans subsp. denitrificans. Whole cells and cell extracts of strain DF3 catalyzed hydrolysis of cyanide to formate and ammonia (HCN + 2H2O----HCOOH + NH3) without forming formamide as a free intermediate.

Multiple preoperative biomarkers are associated with incidence of surgical site infection following surgeries of ankle fractures

open access: yesInternational Wound Journal, Volume 17, Issue 3, Page 842-850, June 2020., 2020
Abstract The aim of the study was to investigate the epidemiologic characteristics of surgical site infection (SSI) following surgeries of ankle fractures. This was a retrospective study. Patients who underwent surgeries for ankle fractures in our hospital between January 2016 and June 2019 were included.
