Preventive Effect of Mineralocorticoid Receptor Antagonists Against Proteinuria Induced by Atezolizumab Plus Bevacizumab Therapy in Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Multicenter Retrospective Study

open access: yesHepatology Research, EarlyView.
Mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists are known to reduce proteinuria in chronic kidney disease, but their effectiveness in preventing bevacizumab‐related proteinuria has not been well established. In the present multi‐institutional retrospective study, we found that these agents significantly delay the onset of moderate or higher grade proteinuria ...

Loss of Posterior Occlusal Support Is Associated With Incident Steatotic Liver Disease in a Nationwide Longitudinal Analysis of the JMDC Claims Database

open access: yesHepatology Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim Steatotic liver disease (SLD), including metabolic dysfunction–associated SLD (MASLD) and metabolic dysfunction–associated alcohol‐related liver disease (MetALD), is a growing global health burden. Although impaired mastication is linked to metabolic disorders, its role in SLD remains unclear.

Short‐Term Clinical Effects After Switching From Zinc Acetate Hydrate to Zinc Histidine Hydrate in Patients With Chronic Liver Disease

open access: yesHepatology Research, EarlyView.
Zinc deficiency is frequently seen in patients with chronic liver disease and is linked to poor appetite and nutritional status. We found that switching to zinc histidine hydrate increased zinc levels within a short period and was associated with improved appetite.

Prognostic Value of PALBI in Patients With Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Concurrent Chronic Kidney Disease: A Nomogram Development

open access: yesHepatology Research, EarlyView.
Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) as well as chronic kidney disease (CKD) are high‐risk individuals, making it challenging to accurately predict their survival. We found that the PALBI grade model when combined with other patient's clinical and tumor‐related factors, forms a new and highly accurate prediction tool to estimate their ...

Diagnostic Impact of Two‐Dimensional Shear Wave Elastography for Liver Fibrosis: A Multicenter Retrospective Study

open access: yesHepatology Research, EarlyView.
Two‐dimensional shear wave elastography demonstrated strong correlation with magnetic resonance elastography and high diagnostic accuracy for liver fibrosis across stages in 744 patients with chronic liver disease, supporting its role as a reliable non‐invasive tool for fibrosis assessment.

A Novel Diagnostic Approach for Hepatocellular Carcinoma Using Glycosylated Ferritin

open access: yesHepatology Research, EarlyView.
The percentage of glycosylated ferritin relative to total ferritin (%GF) is a novel biomarker for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), showing diagnostic performance comparable to that of AFP and DCP. We developed the GFAD index by integrating age, sex, %GF, AFP, and DCP, achieving improved diagnostic accuracy with high sensitivity and specificity. ABSTRACT

ALDH2 Polymorphism in Alcohol‐Related Cirrhosis Requiring Liver Transplantation: A Recipient–Donor Analysis

open access: yesHepatology Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim Genetic polymorphisms of alcohol‐metabolizing enzymes influence drinking behavior and susceptibility to alcohol‐related liver disease (ALD). This study aimed to clarify the distribution of ALDH2 and ADH1B genotypes in liver transplant recipients with ALD, and to explore associations with post‐transplant drinking behavior using a recipient ...

Rare Variants in PFIC‐Related Genes Among Adults With Intrahepatic Cholestasis

open access: yesHepatology Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim Biallelic pathogenic variants in progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (PFIC)‐related genes cause severe pediatric cholestasis. However, the clinical significance of heterozygous variants in adult intrahepatic cholestasis remains unclear.
