The cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase gene family in Populus: phylogeny, organization, and expression

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2009
BackgroundLignin is a phenolic heteropolymer in secondary cell walls that plays a major role in the development of plants and their defense against pathogens.

MCT1‐mediated Lactate Shuttle to Mitochondria Governs Macrophage Polarization and Modulates Glucose Homeostasis by Affecting β Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that the transport of lactate to the mitochondria is of critical importance in determining the functions of macrophages by altering mitochondrial respiration. In macrophages, this lactate transport mechanism regulates glucose homeostasis by influencing the functions of insulin‐secreting cells in the pancreatic islets.

Alcohol Dehydrogenase 1B Suppresses β-Amyloid-Induced Neuron Apoptosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2019
β-amyloid (Aβ) deposition, neurofibrillary tangles induced by phosphorylation of tau protein, and neuronal apoptosis are pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease (AD).

Natural Allelic Variations in IbCHYR1–IbZnFR Complex Regulate Fusarium Root Rot Resistance in Sweet Potato

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
FfRlpA2, a conserved Fusarium effector, functions as a protease inhibitor by hijacking the E3 ubiquitin ligase IbCHYR1 to degrade the resistance factor IbZnFR, thereby promoting Fusarium pathogenicity. Conversely, the high dosage Pro::IbZnFRHap2 allele was associated with resistance to root rot disease.

Influence of food commodities on hangover based on alcohol dehydrogenase and aldehyde dehydrogenase activities

open access: yesCurrent Research in Food Science, 2019
Alcohol consumption often leads to hangover, a condition characterized by several symptoms, characteristically headache, nausea, fatigue and drowsiness. Hangover may be alleviated by altering the rate of alcohol metabolism and facilitating elimination of

Genomic and Cis‐Regulatory Basis of a Plastic C3‐C4 Photosynthesis in Eleocharis Baldwinii

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The sedge Eleocharis baldwinii remarkably switches between C3‐like and C4‐like photosynthesis in response to environmental conditions. Combining gap‐free genome assembly with single‐cell multi‐omics, this study uncovers how subgenome dominance and cell‐specific cis‐regulation enable C4 photosynthesis.

Studies on the biosynthesis of cholesterol: XIV. the origin of prenoic acids from allyl Pyrophosphates in liver enzyme systems

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1961
Allyl pyrophosphates (3,3-dimethylallyl, geranyl, and farnesyl pyrophosphate), which are known intermediates in the biosynthesis of squalene from mevalonate, are also metabolized in the liver by an alternative pathway to acids.

Metabolism of ethyl alcohol and the development of cancer

open access: yesAlcoholism and Drug Addiction, 2018
The main metabolic pathway of ethanol elimination occurs in the liver. Ethanol is oxidised by an alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) to a very toxic acetaldehyde. The aldehyde is converted to acetate by an aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH).

Eosinophils‐Induced Lumican Secretion by Synovial Fibroblasts Alleviates Cartilage Degradation via the TGF‐β Pathway Mediated by Anxa1 Binding

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Eosinophils play a crucial role in the progression of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJOA). This study demonstrates that eosinophils, induced by OVA/IL‐5, promote Lumican secretion in the synovium, which binds to Annexin A1 in chondrocytes, inhibiting transforming growth factor β2 and Smad2/3 phosphorylation.
