Characterization of a benzyl alcohol dehydrogenase from Lactobacillus plantarum WCFS1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Aroma is an important sensory parameter of food products. Lactic acid bacteria have enzymatic activities that could be important in the modification of food aroma.

Study of enzymatic properties of Chitsan-immobilized Alcohol Dehydrogenase

open access: yes上海师范大学学报. 自然科学版, 2016
Taking free enzyme as control,we investigated the enzymatic properties of immobilized alcohol dehydrogenase using chitosan as carrier and glutaraldehyde as crosslinking agent. The results showed that the resistance of immobilized alcohol dehydrogenase to ...

Novel essential role of ethanol oxidation genes at low temperature revealed by transcriptome analysis in the antarctic bacterium pseudomonas extremaustralis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Temperature is one of the most important factors for bacterial growth and development. Cold environments are widely distributed on earth, and psychrotolerant and psychrophilic microorganisms have developed different adaptation strategies to cope with the

Immobilization and stabilization of alcohol dehydrogenase on polyvinyl alcohol fibre

open access: yesBiotechnology Reports, 2018
A polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibrous carrier has been chemically modified for the immobilization of yeast alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) with an aim to increase its stability over a wide pH range, prolong its activity upon storage, and enhance its reusability.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Characterization of the human omega-oxidation pathway for omega-hydroxy-very-long-chain fatty acids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs) have long been known to be degraded exclusively in peroxisomes via beta-oxidation. A defect in peroxisomal beta-oxidation results in elevated levels of VLCFAs and is associated with the most frequent inherited ...

An iron‐activated alcohol dehydrogenase [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1983
An alcohol dehydrogenase isolated from Zymomonas mobilis was found to be activated by ferrous ions but not by zinc, after inactivation with metal‐complexing agents. Cobaltous ions also re‐activated to a lesser extent. It is suggested that in this species the alcohol dehydrogenase naturally contains iron.

3D‐Printed Piezoionic/Bioelectronic Hydrogel for Electro‐Metabolic Regulation of Osteogenic Differentiation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printed piezoionic GPMx hydrogel enables stable electromechanical signal generation under mechanical loading, exhibiting long‐term durability and low fatigue. As a bioactive patch, it restores endogenous bioelectricity to stimulate osteogenesis via Ca2+ influx and mitochondrial activation, while simultaneously enabling label‐free alkaline ...

Site directed mutagenesis and purification of the cDNA for human class I aldehyde dehydrogenase : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) is a key enzyme of alcohol metabolism, removing acetaldehyde which is formed as a product of the alcohol dehydrogenase reaction.

Ethanol-Induced Hepatotoxicity and Alcohol Metabolism Regulation by GABA-Enriched Fermented Smilax china Root Extract in Rats

open access: yesFoods, 2021
Chronic alcohol consumption can cause hepatic injury and alcohol-induced toxicities. Extracts from Smilax china root have been widely used in traditional medicine and for their potential pharmacological benefits. We aimed to determine if fermented Smilax
