Class IV mammalian alcohol dehydrogenase Structural data of the rat stomach enzyme reveal a new class well separated from those already characterized [PDF]

open access: yes
The stomach form of alcohol dehydrogenase has been structurally evaluated by peptide analysis covering six separate regions of the rat enzyme. Overall, this new structure diners widely (32–40% residue differences) from the structures of three classes of ...

The Regulation of Trace Metal Elements in Cancer Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The induction of ferroptosis inhibits tumor growth, enhances anticancer efficacy, and overcomes drug resistance. Recent evidence shows nonferrous metal elements play a role in ferroptosis. This review focuses on how trace metals regulate ferroptosis processes like iron accumulation, lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant defense.

In vivo Hypoxia and a Fungal Alcohol Dehydrogenase Influence the Pathogenesis of Invasive Pulmonary Aspergillosis

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2011
Currently, our knowledge of how pathogenic fungi grow in mammalian host environments is limited. Using a chemotherapeutic murine model of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) and 1H-NMR metabolomics, we detected ethanol in the lungs of mice infected ...

Genetic Variation in HSD17B13 Reduces the Risk of Developing Cirrhosis and Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Alcohol Misusers

open access: yesHepatology, 2020
Carriage of rs738409:G in patatin‐like phospholipase domain containing 3 (PNPLA3) is associated with an increased risk for developing alcohol‐related cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Functional characterization of SlscADH1, a fruit-ripening associated short-chain alcohol dehydrogenase of tomato [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A tomato short-chain dehydrogenase-reductase (SlscADH1) is preferentially expressed in fruit with a maximum expression at the breaker stage while expression in roots, stems, leaves and flowers is very weak.

H2O2‐Generating Advanced Nanomaterials for Cancer Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
H2O2‐generating nanoplatforms can exploit tumor redox imbalance for O2 and toxic reactive oxygen species generation, leading to hypoxia reversal, and apoptosis of cancer cells, respectively. This review highlights the mechanisms of these nanoplatforms, including exogenous H₂O₂ delivery, endogenous amplification, and metal peroxides, which leads to ...

An iron‐activated alcohol dehydrogenase [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1983
An alcohol dehydrogenase isolated from Zymomonas mobilis was found to be activated by ferrous ions but not by zinc, after inactivation with metal‐complexing agents. Cobaltous ions also re‐activated to a lesser extent. It is suggested that in this species the alcohol dehydrogenase naturally contains iron.
