Zinc-glutathione in Chinese Baijiu prevents alcohol-associated liver injury

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Zinc depletion is associated with alcohol-associated liver injury. We tested the hypothesis that increasing zinc availability along with alcohol consumption prevents alcohol-associated liver injury.

The diagnostic value of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) isoenzymes and aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) measurement in the sera of patients with brain tumor

open access: yesArchives of Medical Science, 2017
Introduction: Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) isoenzymes and aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) exist in the brain. Alcohol dehydrogenase and ALDH are also present in brain tumor cells.

Functional analysis of a cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase involved in lignin biosynthesis in wheat

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2010
Cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase (CAD) catalyses the final step in the biosynthesis of monolignols. In the present study, a cDNA encoding a CAD was isolated from wheat, designated as TaCAD1.

LC-MS proteomics analysis of the iInsulin/IGF-1-deficient Caenorhabditis elegans daf-2(e1370) mutant reveals extensive restructuring of intermediary metabolism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The insulin/IGF-1 receptor is a major known determinant of dauer formation, stress resistance, longevity, and metabolism in Caenorhabditis elegans. In the past, whole-genome transcript profiling was used extensively to study differential gene expression ...

Investigating the Potential for Label‐Free Detection of Cell Apoptosis through Terahertz Nano‐Metasurfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a label‐free optical method to monitor cells using a terahertz metasurface‐based biosensing platform. The obtained terahertz signal change for the cell‐contained nanoslots before and after external stimulus is analyzed in terms of transmittance and frequency shift, dynamically representing the cell apoptosis process.

Enantiocomplementary Yarrowia lipolytica Oxidoreductases: Alcohol Dehydrogenase 2 and Short Chain Dehydrogenase/Reductase

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2013
Enzymes of the non-conventional yeast Yarrowia lipolytica seem to be tailor-made for the conversion of lipophilic substrates. Herein, we cloned and overexpressed the Zn-dependent alcohol dehydrogenase ADH2 from Yarrowia lipolytica in Escherichia coli ...

Isomerization of an enzyme-coenzyme complex in yeast alcohol dehydrogenase-catalysed reactions [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 2003
In this work, all the rate constants in the kinetic mechanism of the yeast alcohol dehydrogenase-catalyzed oxidation of ethanol by NAD+, at pH 7.0, 25 ºC, have been estimated. The determination of the individual rate constants was achieved by fitting the

Development of Photo‐Biocatalytic Redox System for Asymmetric Synthesis of Optically Active Amines Using Blue Light and Transaminases. A Case Study Toward Mavacamten

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
Abstract α‐Chiral amines are versatile building blocks for the asymmetric synthesis of optically pure high‐added‐value chemicals, including pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and natural products. Herein, we report a one‐pot, two‐step sequential deracemization of racemic sec‐alcohols to optically enriched primary amines throught a photo‐biocatalytic ...

Antagonistic effect of the glycopeptide from zein on acute alcohol-induced liver injury in mice

open access: yesJournal of Functional Foods, 2022
Alcohol consumption increases the risk of liver disease. Here, the hepatoprotective effect of glycosylated zein peptides (GZPs) against acute alcohol-induced liver injury in mice was evaluated. GZPs were prepared by transglutaminase-induced D-glucosamine
