Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

We have investigated the synthesis and application of Au-Cu/CeO2 (Cu: Au = 2) in the continuous gas phase (P = 1 atm; T = 498 K) coupled hydrogenation of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furaldehyde (HMF) with 2-butanol dehydrogenation.

Ti–Pd Alloys as Heterogeneous Catalysts for Hydrogen Autotransfer Reaction and Catalytic Improvement by Hydrogenation Effects [PDF]
Ti−Pd alloys were investigated as heterogeneous catalysts for hydrogen autotransfer reactions. This is the first reported study of alloys as catalysts for hydrogen‐borrowing reactions using alcohols.

Fermentative capability and aroma compound production by yeast strains isolated from Agave tequilana Weber juice [PDF]
Five yeast strains isolated from agave juice were studied for their fermentative and aromatic capacity. The experiments were performed using agave juice supplemented with ammonium sulphate, as is commonly done in tequila distilleries.

Erythropoietin administration suppresses hepatic soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) expression, leading to increased CYP‐derived epoxides. This is associated with a shift in hepatic macrophage polarization characterized by reduced M1 markers and increased M2 markers, along with reduced hepatic inflammation, suppressed hepatic lipogenesis, and attenuated ...

Debye relaxation and 250 K anomaly in glass forming monohydroxy alcohols
A previous dielectric, near-infrared (NIR), and nuclear magnetic resonance study on the hydrogen-bonded liquid 2-ethyl-1-hexanol [C. Gainaru et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 118304 (2011)] revealed anomalous behavior in various static quantities near 250 K.

Artificial environments for the co-translational stabilization of cell-free expressed proteins [PDF]
An approach for designing individual expression environments that reduce or prevent protein aggregation and precipitation is described. Inefficient folding of difficult proteins in unfavorable translation environments can cause significant losses of ...

14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.
