Identification of Aldehyde Oxidase as the Neonicotinoid Nitroreductase
Chemical Research in Toxicology, 2005Imidacloprid (IMI), the prototypical neonicotinoid insecticide, is used worldwide for crop protection and flea control on pets. It is both oxidatively metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes and reduced at the nitroguanidine moiety by a previously unidentified cytosolic "neonicotinoid nitroreductase", the subject of this investigation.

Aldehyde and Xanthine Oxidase Metabolism
2021Aldehyde oxidase (AO) and xanthine oxidase (XO) are metabolizing enzymes contained within the cytosolic compartments of many tissues and species. In recent years, as drug discovery efforts have increasingly targeted new gene families and new chemotypes and applied decades of learning how to reduce P450-mediated metabolism, the role of non-P450 ...

Cellulose acetate zymograms of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), aldehyde dehydrogenase (AHD), aldehyde reductase (AHR), aldehyde oxidase (AOX) and xanthine oxidase (XOX) extracted from horse tissues were examined. Five ADH isozymes were resolved: three corresponded to the previously reported class I ADHs (EE, ES and SS) (Theorell, 1969); a single form of ...

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the determination of aldehyde oxidase. The reaction catalyzed by aldehyde oxidase is essentially a hydroxylation of the substrate from the elements of water. Hence the role of molecular oxygen is only that of an electron acceptor. Several artificial electron acceptors may be used instead of oxygen. The aerobic

Production of aldehyde oxidases by microorganisms and their enzymatic properties
Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering, 2002In order to establish an efficient process to decompose environmentally toxic aldehydes, dioxygen-dependent aldehyde oxidase (ALOD) from microorganisms was first sought, and some bacteria and actinomycetes were found to produce the enzyme in their cells. Methylobacillus sp., Pseudomonas sp. and Streptomyces moderates were selected as the representative

Substrate-induced chemiluminescence of xanthine oxidase and aldehyde oxidase
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1970Abstract Milk xanthine oxidase and rabbit liver aldehyde oxidase produce chemiluminescence when operating on their substrates. This luminescence can be measured by a Beckman scintillation counter with the coincidence circuit turned off. Hydrogen peroxide markedly enhances the luminescence, and catalase inhibits the light signal by more than 95%.

A very active and specific enzyme, aldehyde oxidase, has been demonstrated and partially purified from the digestive tract of the marine borer, Bankia setacea (Tryon). In the presence of the enzyme, the substrate vanillin was oxidized to vanillic acid with the simultaneous reduction of oxygen, cytochrome c, 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol, or methylene ...

Human aldehyde oxidase (hAOX1)
2019Human aldehyde oxidase (hAOX1) is a molybdenum enzyme with high toxicological importance, but its physiological role is still unknown. hAOX1 metabolizes different classes of xenobiotics and is one of the main drug-metabolizing enzymes in the liver, along with cytochrome P450.

Pyrazinamide-induced hepatotoxicity mediated by aldehyde oxidase and xanthine oxidase
Archives of ToxicologyPyrazinamide (PZA) has been approved for the treatment of tuberculosis in clinical practice. However, its adverse effects, particularly hepatotoxicity, have raised concerns. The present study aimed at exploring the potential relationship between PZA-induced hepatotoxicity and its metabolites resulting from metabolic activation.

[Advances in the study of aldehyde oxidases].
Yao xue xue bao = Acta pharmaceutica Sinica, 2015Aldehyde oxidase (AOX), a highly conserved molybdoflavoenzyme in mammal cytoplasm, has broad substrate specificity and ability to catalyze the oxidation of aldehydes and nitrogen, oxygen-containing heterocyclic rings. AOX was found to widely distribute with the individual differences in vivo and plays an important role in phase I metabolism of drugs ...
