[Inhibitory effects and chemical basis of cornstalk on the growth of Alexandrium tamarense].

Huan jing ke xue= Huanjing kexue, 2009
To provide more information on new algaecide with high efficiency, ecological safety and selectivity, effects of corn stem and leaves on the growth of Alexandrium tamarense were observed. The roles of microorganism in the inhibition were assessed.

Variability in toxicity of the dinoflagellate Alexandrium tamarense in response to different nitrogen sources and concentrations

Toxicon, 2004
Nitrogen (N) supply in pulses was simulated by exposing Alexandrium tamarense which was acclimatized at low N concentration (6 microM-N) to sudden increase in concentrations of nitrate, ammonium and urea, and the variability in toxicity due to nutrient status of A. tamarense was examined.

A novel marine bacterium algicidal to the toxic dinoflagellate Alexandrium tamarense.

Letters in applied microbiology, 2011
This work is aiming at investigating algicidal characterization of a bacterium isolate DHQ25 against harmful alga Alexandrium tamarense.16S rDNA sequence analysis showed that the most probable affiliation of DHQ25 belongs to the γ-proteobacteria subclass and the genus Vibrio. Bacterial isolate DHQ25 showed algicidal activity through an indirect attack.

Application of a channel biosensor for toxicity measurements in cultured Alexandrium tamarense.

Journal of natural toxins, 2001
The purpose of this study is to examine the toxicity of Alexandrium tamarense strains using a channel biosensor. With this biosensor, we were able to measure very small quantities of PSP toxin contained within an individual plankton cell. However, measurement of at least 100 cells is more desirable for increasing the sensitivity of the assay. Therefore,

Allelochemicals of Alexandrium tamarense and its algicidal mechanism for Prorocentrum donghaiense and Heterosigma akashiwo

Chemosphere
The effects of culture filtrate of Alexandrium tamarense on Prorocentrum donghaiense and Heterosigma akashiwo were investigated, including determination of algal density, photosynthesis, intracellular enzyme content and activity. The filtrate of A. tamarense had a stronger inhibitory effect on P. donghaiense than H.

Toxin production and transcriptomic response to nitrate concentrations in the toxic dinoflagellate Alexandrium tamarense

Marine Environmental Research
The bloom-forming dinoflagellate Alexandrium tamarense is one of the most important producers of paralytic shellfish poisoning toxins. Annually recurrent blooms of this dinoflagellate species is associated with the incremental nitrogen influx, especially excessive nitrate input.
