Updated EAACI Statement on Drug Hypersensitivity Skin Testing: Methodology and Non‐Irritative Concentrations

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT These updated EAACI guidelines aim to standardize skin testing methodologies for both immediate and non‐immediate drug hypersensitivity reactions. For immediate reactions, the optimal testing window is 4–6 weeks post‐reaction; whereas beyond 6 months, false‐negative results increase.

Alfentanil-induced miosis as a surrogate measure of alfentanil pharmacokinetics in patients with mild and moderate liver cirrhosis.

open access: yes, 2007
OBJECTIVES: (i) To evaluate the pupillary response to alfentanil as a surrogate measure of alfentanil pharmacokinetics in cirrhotic patients and to compare the data observed in cirrhotic patients with those found in healthy volunteers (historical control

In silico prediction of novel effective combinational treatment of chronic pain in individual patients: A joint white paper of the H2020 QSPainRelief consortium

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Opioids are prescribed widely for chronic pain despite well‐recognised risks and variable long‐term benefit, reflecting the lack of effective alternatives for many patients. Combination therapies offer a promising strategy to enhance efficacy whilst reducing side effects.

Acute Pain During Intensive Care: Prevalence, Predisposing Factors and Pain Trajectories. A Prospective Multicenter Observational Study

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Volume 70, Issue 9, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background A considerable proportion of patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) experience pain. The objective of this prospective observational cohort study was to investigate the prevalence of pain, factors associated with pain and pain trajectories in ICU patients.

Management of Pain in the Intensive Care Unit: A Nordic Survey

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Volume 70, Issue 8, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Pain is common in intensive care unit (ICU) patients with up to one‐third experiencing pain at rest and even more during mobilization and clinical procedures. This survey aimed to explore physicians' attitudes and preferences regarding pain management in adult ICU patients in the Nordic countries.

Patient-controlled alfentanil target-controlled infusion for postoperative analgesia

open access: yes, 1996
We have compared the opioid effects of a patient-demand, target-controlled infusion of alfentanil (n = 10), with patient-controlled bolus administration of morphine (n = 10) following major spinal surgery in Chinese patients aged from 11 to 67 years. The

Peripheral κ opioid receptor in pain and inflammation: From molecular signalling and gene expression to drug discovery

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 17, Page 5157-5189, September 2026.
The κ opioid receptor (κ receptor, KOR) is a G protein‐coupled receptor with well established roles in analgesia and immune modulation. Although historically studied primarily in the central nervous system (CNS), growing evidence indicates that κ signalling in peripheral tissues plays an important role in regulating pain, inflammation and immune ...
