Effects of vascular endothelial growth factor supplementation and alginate embedding on human oocyte maturation in vitro

open access: yesAsian Pacific Journal of Reproduction, 2020
Objective: To evaluate whether the use of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) with alginate increases oocyte maturation following in vitro maturation. Methods: This experimental study was performed on 150 immature oocytes (germinal vesicle oocytes)

Bioadditive manufacturing of hybrid tissue scaffolds for controlled release kinetics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Development of engineered tissue scaffolds with superior control over cell-protein interactions is still very much infancy. Advancing through heterogeneous multifold scaffolds with controlled release fashion enables synchronization of regenerating tissue

3D‐Printed Porous Hydroxyapatite Formed via Enzymatic Mineralization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bone combines lightness, strength, and the ability to heal, inspiring new materials design. This work introduces a room‐temperature, enzyme‐mediated 3D printing method to create porous hydroxyapatite scaffolds. The process avoids energy‐intensive sintering, preserves bioactivity, and allows control over porosity and mineralization.

Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction of Alginate from Fucus vesiculosus Seaweed By-Product Post-Fucoidan Extraction

open access: yesMarine Drugs
The solid phase byproduct obtained after conventional fucoidan extraction from the brown seaweed Fucus vesiculosus can be used as a source containing alginate.

Characterizing the Three Different Alginate Type of Sargassum siliquosum

open access: yesIlmu Kelautan, 2017
This research was aimed to identify the brown seaweed, to characterize the acid, sodium and calcium alginate, and to examine the alginate yield. The identification was done phaenotypically.

The Study of Sorption of the Milk Ionized Calcium by Sodium Alginate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The possibility of regulation of defatted cow milk salt composition (fat content– 0,05 %) with the use of sodium alginate as a natural ion-exchanger was studied.

Dual‐Layer Living Hydrogel Enables On‐Demand Delivery of Phages and Probiotics for Synergistic Wound Infection Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐layer living hydrogel, ProΦGel, integrates bacteriophages and probiotics for synergistic wound infection therapy. The outer gelatin‐based matrix releases phages on demand in response to P. aeruginosa infections, while inner alginate beads sustain probiotic delivery.

Ascophyllum nodosum enriched bread reduces subsequent energy intake with no effect on post-prandial glucose and cholesterol in healthy, overweight males. A pilot study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The consumption of seaweed isolates (such as alginate) has been shown to successfully reduce energy intake and modulate glycaemic and cholesterolaemic responses.

Tissue Engineered Human Elastic Cartilage From Primary Auricular Chondrocytes for Ear Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Despite over three decades of research, no tissue‐engineered solution for auricular reconstruction in microtia patients has reached clinical translation. The key challenge lies in generating functional elastic cartilage ex vivo. Here, we integrate synergistic cell‐biomaterial strategies to engineer auricular grafts with mechanical and histological ...
