A systems biology approach identifies a R2R3 MYB gene subfamily with distinct and overlapping functions in regulation of aliphatic glucosinolates.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2007
BackgroundGlucosinolates are natural metabolites in the order Brassicales that defend plants against both herbivores and pathogens and can attract specialized insects. Knowledge about the genes controlling glucosinolate regulation is limited.

Molecular Characterization of MYB28 Involved in Aliphatic Glucosinolate Biosynthesis in Chinese Kale (Brassica oleracea var. alboglabra Bailey)

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2017
Glucosinolates are Brassicaceae-specific secondary metabolites that act as crop protectants, flavor precursors, and cancer-prevention agents, which shows strong evidences of anticarcinogentic, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activities.

Vapor phase surface functionalization under ultra violet activation of parylene thin films grown by chemical vapor deposition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Various reactive gas phase treatments have been investigated as surface functionalization dry processes with the goal to improve the wettability of parylene C films, keeping good optical properties in the visible range. The films were grown on different

Hydrogelation via Supramolecular Copolymerization of Structural Water within Adaptive Metal–Organic Fibers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Structural water is harnessed as an active co‐monomer to drive supramolecular polymerization in bulk water. Zinc(II) Salphen complexes confine water molecules to form hollow, metal–organic nanofibers that assemble into adaptive hydrogels with thermoresponsive mechanics and selective chiral recognition.

Substrate specific hydrolysis of aromatic and aromatic-aliphatic esters in orchid tissue cultures

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2014
We found that tissue cultures of higher plants were able, similarly as microorganisms, to transform low-molecular-weight chemical compounds. In tissue cultures of orchids (Cymbidium 'Saint Pierre' and Dendrobium phalaenopsis) acetates of phenols and ...

The \u3csup\u3e13\u3c/sup\u3eC-NMR Solid State Spectroscopy of Various Classes of Coals [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
The 13C-NMR spectra of various classes of coal obtained in the solid state show two resonances, one of which is assigned to aromatic carbon and the other to aliphatic carbon. The resonances are very broad with the high field resonance centered at about 7

The unusual hydrocarbon emission from the early carbon star HD 100764: The connection between aromatics and aliphatics

open access: yes, 2007
We have used the Infrared Spectrograph (IRS) on the Spitzer Space Telescope to obtain spectra of HD 100764, an apparently single carbon star with a circumstellar disk. The spectrum shows emission features from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) that

Tri-trophic effects of inter- and intra-population variation in defence chemistry of wild cabbage (Brassica oleracea) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The eVect of direct chemical defences in plants on the performance of insect herbivores and their natural enemies has received increasing attention over the past 10 years.
