Structural characterisation of nucleotide sugar short‐chain dehydrogenases/reductases from the thermophilic pseudomurein‐containing methanogen Methanothermobacter thermautotrophicus ΔH

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 2, Page 492-513, January 2026.
Nucleotide sugar short‐chain dehydrogenases/reductases (NS‐SDRs) are involved in pseudomurein and capsular polysaccharide formation in methanogenic Archaea. Methanothermobacter thermautotrophicus possesses several NS‐SDRs labelled Mth375, Mth380, Mth373, Mth631 and Mth1789.

Structural and functional characterization of chitinase from carnivorous plant Drosera adelae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 15, Issue 12, Page 1930-1944, December 2025.
A class I chitinase from the carnivorous plant Drosera adelae was expressed and purified using a yeast system, revealing high enzymatic activity. Structural analyses of the catalytic and chitin‐binding domains identified key tyrosine residues involved in substrate binding, offering insights into the enzyme's adaptation for insect digestion.

Evolution of Allorecognition in the Tunicata

open access: yesBiology, 2020
Allorecognition, the ability to distinguish self or kin from unrelated conspecifics, plays several important biological roles in invertebrate animals. Two of these roles include negotiating limited benthic space for colonial invertebrates, and inbreeding

Everolimus‐Coated Laser‐Cut Self‐Expandable Metallic Stent Suppresses Stent‐Induced Tissue Hyperplasia in a Rat Gastric Outlet

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, Volume 5, Issue 12, December 2025.
Everolimus‐coated laser‐cut self‐expandable metallic stents suppress stent‐induced tissue hyperplasia in the gastric outlet by reducing inflammation, fibrosis, and smooth muscle proliferation. Herein, we demonstrate the mechanical stability, sustained drug release, and histological benefits in a rat gastric outlet model, suggesting potential for ...

Unconventional structure and function of PHD domains from additional sex combs‐like proteins

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 292, Issue 24, Page 6626-6643, December 2025.
A plant homeodomain (PHD) at the C terminus of additional sex combs‐like (ASXL) proteins is recurrently truncated in disease. In the current study, the ASXL PHD was shown not to bind histone modifications. Instead, a complex between the ASXL PHD and methyl CpG‐binding domain proteins 5 and 6 (MBD5/6) was investigated.

Mechanistic basis for inhibition of the extended‐spectrum β‐lactamase GES‐1 by enmetazobactam and tazobactam

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 22, Page 3284-3300, November 2025.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is of huge importance, resulting in over 1 million deaths each year. Here, we describe how a new drug, enmetazobactam, designed to help fight resistant bacterial diseases, inhibits a key enzyme (GES‐1) responsible for AMR. Our data show it is a more potent inhibitor than the related tazobactam, with high‐level computation

The Hidden Influence: Impacts of Residual Dimethylformamide in NDSB‐211 on icIEF Separation for Monoclonal Antibodies

open access: yesELECTROPHORESIS, Volume 46, Issue 19, Page 1502-1512, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) present analytical challenges due to their inherent heterogeneity and susceptibility to post‐translational modifications (PTMs) during production and storage. Monitoring of charge heterogeneity profiles by imaged capillary isoelectric focusing (icIEF) has been aided by the use of non‐detergent sulfobetaines (NDSBs),
