Germination, Growth, Chlorophyll Fluorescence and Ionic Balance in Linseed Seedlings Subjected to Saline and Alkaline Stresses

open access: yesPlant Production Science, 2014
Both saline and alkaline stresses involve osmotic stress and ion injury; however, alkaline stress involves the stress due to a high pH. The aim of this study was to evaluate the physiological responses of linseed seeds and seedlings to saline and ...

The role of the protein kinase A pathway in the response to alkaline pH stress in yeast [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 2011
Exposure of Saccharomyces cerevisiae to alkaline pH provokes a stress condition that generates a compensatory reaction. In the present study we examined a possible role for the PKA (protein kinase A) pathway in this response. Phenotypic analysis revealed that mutations that activate the PKA pathway (ira1 ira2, bcy1) tend to cause sensitivity to ...

Electrocapillary Modulated Interfacial Tension Amplifies Liquid Metal Transduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presented an electrocapillary‐enhanced magnetohydrodynamic pumping strategy that harnesses the Lorentz force and interfacial tension modulation of liquid metal droplets to achieve amplified fluidic power. The system enabled low‐voltage, self‐oscillating fluidic transduction with enhanced pressure and flow generation, supporting compact ...

Changes in the Vascular Cylinder of Wild Soybean Roots Under Alkaline Stress

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2014
Changes in the vascular cylinder of wild soybean (Glycine soja Sieb. et Zucc) roots under alkaline stress were investigated in an experiment that applied 90 mmol L−1 alkaline stress for 10 d at the five-trifoliate plant growth stage in Huinan County ...

Impact of Growth Conditions on Susceptibility of Five Microbial Species to Alkaline Stress [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Endodontics, 2008
The effects of different growth conditions on the susceptibility of five taxa to alkaline stress were investigated. Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212, Streptococcus sobrinus OMZ 176, Candida albicans ATCC 90028, Actinomyces naeslundii ATCC 12104, and Fusobacterium nucleatum ATCC 10953 were grown as planktonic cells, allowed to adhere to dentin for 24 ...

Bioinspired Hierarchically Interconnected Supermacroporous Hydrogels via Dual‐Templating for Rapid Atmospheric Water Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by lung alveolar architecture, a dual‐templating strategy combining CO2 bubble and ice templating creates mechanically robust super‐macroporous hydrogels with highly interconnected transport pathways. The resulting material achieves 3.37× faster moisture sorption and 1.72× higher solar‐driven water release than single‐templated counterparts ...

Effect of alkaline stress on seed germination and seedling physiological indices of Albizzia julibrissin Durazz

open access: yes浙江大学学报. 农业与生命科学版, 2008
To explore physiological mechanism of how alkaline stress affects the growth of the Albizzia julibrissin Durazz seedlings, the concentrations of malonaldehyde (MDA), soluble sugar and proline, and the physiological indexes as peroxidase and superoxide ...

Electrospun Wood‐Derived Biopolymers as Electrodes in Electrochemical Energy Storage Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrospinning transforms wood‐derived cellulose and lignin into architecturally defined, binder‐free carbon electrodes with tuneable porosity and functionality. This review shows how fibre design enables decoupled charge and mass transport, enhancing performance across battery systems, while identifying key challenges in spinnability, scalability ...

Single‐Step Recovery of Water from Stable Crude Oil‐Water Emulsion Using Surface Engineered Hybrid Inorganic‐Polymer Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Atomic layer deposition is used to conformally surface engineer polymeric membranes to fabricate inorganic–organic hybrid membranes. These membranes have exceptionally strong attraction toward water even in high oil containing emulsions, which leads to an extremely strong hydration layer at the interface.
