ALKBH5/YTHDF2 Axis Regulates Osteogenic Differentiation Through Mediating the m6A Modification of ELK1

open access: yesInternational Journal of Endocrinology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
This study aimed to investigate the role of N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) methylation in osteogenic differentiation during osteoporosis (OP). Serum specimens were obtained from 25 individuals diagnosed with OP and 25 age‐matched healthy controls. In parallel, MC3T3‐E1 preosteoblastic cells were employed for in vitro functional assays.

Insights into enzymatic halogenation from computational studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The halogenases are a group of enzymes that have only come to the fore over the last 10 years thanks to the discovery and characterization of several novel representatives.

Enhanced Protein Synthesis and Hippocampus‐Dependent Memory via Inhibition of YTHDF2‐Mediated m6A mRNA Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 45, December 4, 2025.
YTHDF2‐mediated m6A mRNA decay critically regulates learning and memory. Its forebrain‐specific knockout in mice impedes degradation of m6A‐modified mRNAs, enhancing hippocampal synaptic transmission, protein synthesis, and memory. Conversely, hippocampal YTHDF2 reintroduction or SEMA4B reduction reverses this enhancement, while its overexpression ...

Diversity and abundance of n-alkane-degrading bacteria in the near-surface soils of a Chinese onshore oil and gas field [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2013
Alkane-degrading bacteria have long been used as an important biological indicator for oil and gas prospecting, but their ecological characteristics in hydrocarbon microseep habitats are still poorly understood. In this study, the diversity and abundance

Human AlkB homologue 1 (ABH1) exhibits DNA lyase activity at abasic sites [PDF]

open access: yesDNA Repair, 2010
Bacterial AlkB and three human AlkB homologues (ABH1, ABH2, and ABH3) are Fe(2+)/2-oxoglutarate-dependent oxygenases that directly repair alkylation-damaged DNA. Here, we show that ABH1 unexpectedly has a second activity, cleaving DNA at abasic (AP) sites such as those arising spontaneously from alkylation-dependent depurination reactions.

RNA m1A methyltransferase TRMT61A promotes colorectal tumorigenesis by enhancing ONECUT2 mRNA stability and is a potential therapeutic target

open access: yesCancer Communications, Volume 45, Issue 12, Page 1616-1644, December 2025.
Abstract Background The role of N1‐methyladenosine (m1A) in cancer is poorly understood. Here we explored the function of RNA methyltransferase TRNA methyltransferase 61A (TRMT61A) in colorectal cancer (CRC) and its potential as a therapeutic target. Methods RNA m1A levels were assessed through liquid chromatography‐mass spectrometry.

Functional characterization of genes involved in alkane oxidation by Pseudomonas aeruginosa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Most clinical isolates identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa grow on long-chain n-alkanes, while environmental P. aeruginosa isolates often grow on medium- as well as long-chain n-alkanes.

The bacterial community structure of hydrocarbon-polluted marine environments as the basis for the definition of an ecological index of hydrocarbon exposure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The aim of this study was to design a molecular biological tool, using information provided by amplicon pyrosequencing of 16S rRNA genes, that could be suitable for environmental assessment and bioremediation in marine ecosystems.

Effects of changes in intracellular iron pool on AlkB-dependent and AlkB-independent mechanisms protecting E.coli cells against mutagenic action of alkylating agent

open access: yesMutation Research - Fundamental and Molecular Mechanisms of Mutagenesis, 2015
An Escherichia coli hemH mutant accumulates protoporphyrin IX, causing photosensitivity of cells to visible light. Here, we have shown that intracellular free iron in hemH mutants is double that observed in hemH(+) strain. The aim of this study was to recognize the influence of this increased free iron concentration on AlkB-directed repair of alkylated

Genome‐wide identification of MsAlkB family genes and functional analysis of MsALKBH2 as an RNA m6A eraser in alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) subject to drought stress

open access: yesGrassland Research, Volume 4, Issue 4, Page 316-331, December 2025.
MsALKBH2 is an mRNA m6A demethylase in alfalfa that is required for enhancing drought tolerance through decreasing ROS content. Abstract Background N6‐methyladenosine (m6A), the most prevalent mRNA modification in plants, plays a pivotal role in developmental processes and stress responses.
