Alkylresorcinol homologs in cereal grains

Journal of Food Composition and Analysis, 1991
Abstract An extraction, isolation, and identification procedure was developed to determine alkyresorcinol homologs in rye, triticale, wheat, durum, millet, and barley. The major alkyresorcinol homologs in cereals have saturated odd-numbered carbons with predominant chain lengths of C15, C17, C19, C21, C23, and C25.

Alkylresorcinols and isocoumarins from Ononis pubescens

Phytochemistry, 1994
Four alkylisocoumarins, seven alkylresorcinols and an alkylbenzoate were isolated from the aerial parts of Ononis pubescens. The majority are new natural products.

Biological Properties of Plant-Derived Alkylresorcinols: Mini-Review

Mini-Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry, 2016
Alkylresorcinols are compounds which belong to the family of phenolic lipids, and are usually found in numerous biological species. In the particular case of higher plants, alkylresorcinols have been found in various counterparts with chains of thirteen to twenty-seven carbon atoms containing several saturations.

Alkylresorcinols in Swedish cereal food products

Journal of Food Composition and Analysis, 2012
In this study alkylresorcinol (AR) content and homologue composition was determined in 159 cereal products commonly consumed in Sweden. Food items were sorted into seven groups including soft bread, crisp bread, breakfast cereals, pasta, flour, cookies and other cereal products with varying content of rye, wheat, oat, corn, rice and maize. The analyzed

Cereal alkylresorcinols are absorbed by humans.

The Journal of nutrition, 2003
Currently there is no biomarker to link consumption of whole grain cereals and their observed health benefits. A candidate for a biomarker of whole grain wheat and rye intake is a class of phenolic lipids, the alkylresorcinols (AR). Studies to determine the uptake of AR in humans were carried out with a low fiber diet based on white wheat bread (AR ...

Higher cardol homologs (5-alkylresorcinols) in rye seedlings

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular and Cell Biology of Lipids, 2000
The occurrence of alkylresorcinols, polyketide compounds that in the same homologous series as cardol isolated from Anacardium occidentale (cashew) or bilobol from Ginkgo biloba which are derivatives of 1,3-dihydroxy-5-alk(en)ylbenzene, have been demonstrated in developing rye (Secale cereale L.) kernels.

5-Alkylresorcinols from Hakea amplexicaulis that cleave DNA

Chemical Research in Toxicology, 1988
A dichloromethane extract of Hakea amplexicaulis was found to cause strand scission of phi X174 replicative form DNA in the presence of Cu(II). Bioassay-guided fractionation of this extract afforded five compounds capable of mediating DNA relaxation. Structure determination of the active principles indicated that they were 5-tridecylresorcinol (1), 5 ...

Membrane-structuring properties of bacterial long-chain alkylresorcinols

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1992
To investigate the mechanism by which 5-n-alkyl(C19-C25)-resorcinols synthesized by certain bacteria of the Azotobacter genus affect the lipid bilayers of cellular membranes, planar bimolecular membranes were formed from these alkyl-resorcinols and from mixtures of those and typical bacterial phospholipids such as phosphatidylethanolamine ...

5-Alkylresorcinols fromMeruliusincarnatus

Journal of Natural Products, 2006
Two new, 5-heptadeca-8'Z,11'Z,16-trienylresorcinol (1) and 5-heptadeca-9'E,11'Z,16-trienylresorcinol (2), and six known 5-alkylresorcinols (3-8) were isolated from the mushroom Merulius incarnatus. Compound 2 is the first 5-alkylresorcinol derivative that contains a trans-cis conjugated double bond system.

Determination of alkylresorcinols in cereal-based foods

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 1992
«Ready-to-eat» brekfast cereals and raw, baked, and cooked cereal products were analyzed for alkylresorcinols. The finely ground, dried samples were extracted with acetone; the alkylresorcinols from each extract were separated by HLC. A photodiode array detector was set at 280 nm to monitor the eluted compounds; subsequently, the spectrum of each ...
