Use of Allan Deviation for Characterizing Satellite Microwave Sounder Noise Equivalent Differential Temperature (NEDT)

IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, 2015
Currently, the instrument sensitivity of sensors onboard weather satellites is quantified by computing the standard deviation of the measurements taken from their calibration targets. The standard deviation is valid for describing the spread of a statistical distribution of the measured values around its mean that is stable.

Real-time Assessment of Allan Deviation and Time Deviation

2007 IEEE International Frequency Control Symposium Joint with the 21st European Frequency and Time Forum, 2007
In this paper the methods enabling real-time Allan deviation (ADEV) and time deviation (TDEV) are presented. The idea of real-time quasi-parallel computation of ADEV and TDEV is described first. The results of experimental tests of the methods proposed for different conditions (numbers and lengths of observation intervals simultaneously analyzed) are ...

Joint real-time computation of Allan deviation, time deviation, and Hadamard deviation

EFTF-2010 24th European Frequency and Time Forum, 2010
The results of the experimental tests have proved the ability of the real-time computation of Hadamard deviation, Allan deviation, and time deviation performed jointly. The computation of the three parameters can be performed jointly simultaneously for numerous series and wide range of observation intervals as well as rather short sampling interval ...

Real-time assessment of dynamic Allan deviation and dynamic time deviation

2012 European Frequency and Time Forum, 2012
In this paper the methods enabling real-time assessment of dynamic Allan deviation and dynamic time deviation are presented. The idea of real-time analysis of timing signals using dynamic approach is described first. Then the algorithms of real-time computation of dynamic parameters are presented.

TheoH and allan deviation as power-law noise estimators

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 2007
A spectral interpretation using the frequency sensitivity of the Allan variance (Avar) and Thêo-Hybrid (ThêoH) is used to determine falpha noise, or "power-law noise." ThêoH has narrower chi-square confidence than Avar; consequently, ThêoH provides significantly better determination of falpha noise types at long term.

RAPID CALCULATION OF TIME DEVIATION AND MODIFIED ALLAN DEVIATION FOR CHARACTERIZING TELECOMMUNICATIONS CLOCK STABILITY

International Journal of Computers and Applications, 2008
Time and frequency characterization of precision clocks and oscillators is important in maintaining time and frequency standards. The recent preference has been for the time domain signal characterization of clocks, and several performance measures of clocks and oscillators are defined in ITU-T Recommendation G.810.

Analysis of Sensors Noise Performance Using Allan Deviation

2019 IEEE XXVIII International Scientific Conference Electronics (ET), 2019
The paper presents the noise analysis of different sensor types using Allan Variance (AV). Compared to the conventional variance that assesses the variation around the mean value of the aggregate data surveyed, AV estimates variations by averaging measurements for different periods.

Degrees of Freedom for Allan Deviation Estimates of Multiple Clocks

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control, 2016
The three-cornered-hat (TCH) technique is used frequently in the timing community to estimate the stability of single frequency standards (clocks) when the only measurement data available are paired differences. In previous work, we presented an analytic method to estimate the reduced degrees of freedom produced when using the TCH estimation technique.

Multi-Source Maximum Likelihood Modified Allan Deviation Estimation

2020 Joint Conference of the IEEE International Frequency Control Symposium and International Symposium on Applications of Ferroelectrics (IFCS-ISAF), 2020
The familiar “tri-cornered hat” method is sometimes used to compute ensemble-relative ADEV values for each of three reference oscillators, superficially independent of any particular reference. When one of the three oscillators is distinctly more stable, the tri-cornered had algorithm tends to give a poor estimate – estimates of AVAR may be negative ...

Fast computation of time deviation and modified Allan deviation for telecommunications clock stability characterization

Proceedings International Symposium on Parallel Architectures, Algorithms and Networks. I-SPAN 2000, 2000
Time and frequency characterization of precision clocks and oscillators is an important task in the maintenance of time and frequency standards. Recently, time domain signal characterization of clocks is generally preferred and several performance measures of clocks and oscillators are defined in ITU-T Recommendation G.810.
