ABSTRACT Background Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a curative treatment for sickle cell disease (SCD). However, barriers exist that prevent access to this treatment modality. Methods An IRB‐approved mixed‐method survey of barriers to HSCT in SCD was given to parents, caregivers, and adolescents obtaining care at the Children's of ...

Ridge, lasso, and elastic-net estimations of the modified Poisson and least-squares regressions for binary outcome data [PDF]
Logistic regression is a standard method in multivariate analysis for binary outcome data in epidemiological and clinical studies; however, the resultant odds-ratio estimates fail to provide directly interpretable effect measures. The modified Poisson and least-squares regressions are alternative standard methods that can provide risk-ratio and risk ...

Abstract Background Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo‐HSCT) can be a life‐saving treatment for individuals diagnosed with acute leukemia. However, allo‐HSCT can lead to adverse effects, such as reduced physical function. Exercise has demonstrated benefits in post‐allo‐HSCT recovery, but feasibility issues persist in tailored ...

Peripheral blood mononuclear cells were isolated from 12 systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients and 12 healthy controls. The number and function of peripheral blood CD141+ dendritic cells (DCs) were compared between patients and controls. Moreover, the tolerogenic properties of CD141+ and CD1c+ DCs were compared in SLE patients.
