Abstract The competition between the constituent elements of the Cu 0.5 NiAlCoCrFeTiMo alloy system during mechanical alloying was investigated and ranked with their alloying rates in getting alloyed in the mixture. By using XRD analysis, EDS mapping, extended X-ray absorption fine structure technique, and synchrotron radiation diffraction, the ...

Mechanically driven alloying of immiscible elements
Physical Review Letters, 1992We report on the formation by mechanical alloying of fcc solid solution of Fe and Cu, which are immiscible. Intense codeformation of Cu with Fe and other high-melting bcc metals generates small fragments with tip radii of the order 1 nm such that capillary pressures force the atoms on these fragments to dissolve.

In this chapter, a series of SMA elements, including SMA wires, cables, bars, bolts, helical springs, washer springs and ring springs, are described in detail. These elements are important additions to the ‘arsenal’ against the seismic hazard. For each type of element, the manufacturing process, testing scheme, key mechanical behaviour and analytical ...

Enrichment of alloying elements in anodized magnesium alloys
Corrosion Science, 2002Abstract The possibility of enrichment of alloying elements in magnesium alloys as a consequence of growth of an anodic film has been investigated for sputtering-deposited Mg–0.4 at.% W and Mg–1.0 at.% W alloys. The alloys were anodized at 10 mA cm −2 to various voltages, up to 150 V, in 3 M ammonium hydroxide/0.05 M ammonium phosphate electrolyte ...
