Abstract A lead-promoted allylation of carbonyl compounds with allyl bromide in a Pb/Bu4NBr/Me3SiCl/DMF system has been performed in good yields with high chemoselectivities: RCHO > R1R2CO > R1CH(OH)CO2R2>> R1CO2R2, lactone, (RCO)2O, and RCOCl.

Efficient allylation of carbonyl compounds with allyl chlorides in water [PDF]
A novel mediation system, Zn-InCl3 (cat.)/NH4Cl was employed in the Barbier–type allylation. As a result, the allylation with allyl chloride in water took place smoothly under mild conditions. Various aldehydes and even ketones could be employed to afford the corresponding alcohols in high yields.
