The effect of spectral filters on reading speed and accuracy following stroke

open access: yesJournal of Optometry, 2013
Purpose: The aim of the study was to determine the effect of optimal spectral filters on reading performance following stroke. Methods: Seventeen stroke subjects, aged 43–85, were considered with an age-matched Control Group (n = 17).

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Optimal spatial field control for controlled release ‡

open access: yes, 2020
SUMMARY Most distributed parameter control problems involve manipulation within the spatial domain. Such problems arise in a variety of applications including epidemiology, tissue engineering, and cancer treatment.

Almost log-optimal trading strategies for small transaction costs in model with stochastic coefficients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
summary:We consider a non-consuming agent investing in a stock and a money market interested in the portfolio market price far in the future. We derive a strategy which is almost log-optimal in the long run in the presence of small proportional ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Estimation of Optimal Commodity Tax Rates in Iran [PDF]

open access: yesFaslnāmah-i Pizhūhish/Nāmah-i Iqtisādī, 2008
This study estimates optimal commodity tax rates regarding efficiency and social justice. A many- person Ramsey rule and Bergson – Samuelson social welfare function are used for estimating optimal tax rates.

Constructing Odd-Variable Rotation Symmetric Boolean Functions With Optimal AI and Higher Nonlinearity

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
As a part of the field of cryptography, rotation symmetric Boolean functions have rich cryptographic significance. In this paper, based on the knowledge of integer compositions, we present a new construction of odd-variable rotation symmetric Boolean ...

Comparative performance for thermoelectric refrigerators with radiative and Newtonian heat transfer laws

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2022
Models of multi-element thermoelectric refrigerator (TER) with radiative heat transfer law (RHT) and Newtonian heat transfer law (NHT) are established based on finite time thermodynamics.

Cohomology of D-complex manifolds

open access: yes, 2012
In order to look for a well-behaved counterpart to Dolbeault cohomology in D-complex geometry, we study the de Rham cohomology of an almost D-complex manifold and its subgroups made up of the classes admitting invariant, respectively anti-invariant ...

Almost-Optimal Gossip-Based Aggregate Computation [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Computing, 2012
Motivated by applications to modern networking technologies, there has been interest in designing efficient gossip-based protocols for computing aggregate functions. While gossip-based protocols provide robustness due to their randomized nature, reducing the message and time complexity of these protocols is also of paramount importance in the context ...
