Hedgehog Pathway Activation Alters Ciliary Signaling in Primary Hypothalamic Cultures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Primary cilia dysfunction has been associated with hyperphagia and obesity in both ciliopathy patients and mouse models of cilia perturbation. Neurons throughout the brain possess these solitary cellular appendages, including in the feeding centers of ...

BASAL AND STIMULATED ALPHA-MSH PLASMA LEVELS THROUGHOUT PUBERTY [PDF]

open access: yesPediatric Research, 1993
a-Melanocyte-stimulating-hormone (a-MSH) is a peptide derived from a two steps cleavage of Pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) and produced in adults by a residual zona of the original intermediate lobe. It has recently been shown that a-MSH is not only detectable in healthy adult subjects, but also that plasma levels change during menstrual cycle ...

Dysfunctional TRIM31 of POMC Neurons Provokes Hypothalamic Injury and Peripheral Metabolic Disorder under Long‐Term Fine Particulate Matter Exposure

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Particulate matter ≤2.5 µm (PM2.5) elevates risks of neurological and chronic metabolic diseases, but the underlying mechanisms linking PM2.5‐induced central nervous system (CNS) injury to metabolic dysfunction remain unclear. Hypothalamic pro‐opiomelanocortin‐expressing (POMC+) neurons regulate systemic metabolic homeostasis, and tripartite motif ...

Reduced α-MSH Underlies Hypothalamic ER-Stress-Induced Hepatic Gluconeogenesis

open access: yesCell Reports, 2015
Alterations in ER homeostasis have been implicated in the pathophysiology of obesity and type-2 diabetes (T2D). Acute ER stress induction in the hypothalamus produces glucose metabolism perturbations.

Időskori anorexia, sarcopenia: orexigén és anorexigén peptidek energetikai hatásainak változása az életkorral rágcsálókban = Anorexia of aging, sarcopenia: age-dependent changes in the effects of orexigenic and anorexigenic peptides on energy homeostasis in rodents [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010

Unraveling the Morphological and Functional Maturation Mechanisms Underlying Human Neural Development Using iPSCs‐Derived Neuronal Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs)‐derived neuronal model, Tian and colleagues reveal that voltage‐gated calcium channels Cav1.2 and Cav1.3, and their mediated calcium ion influx, are essential for early morphogenesis of human neuronal development, while ECEL1 underlies human neuronal functional developmental maturation through CALM3 ...

Gene expression patterns in anterior pituitary associated with quantitative measure of oestrous behaviour in dairy cows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Intensive selection for high milk yield in dairy cows has raised production levels substantially but at the cost of reduced fertility, which manifests in different ways including reduced expression of oestrous behaviour.

The Formation of Covalent Linkages in Lignocellulosic Biomass via the Oxocarbenium Intermediate

open access: yesChemPhysChem, EarlyView.
Density functional theory models show that the hydrated and acidic hemicellulose matrix in lignocellulosic biomass can generate oxocarbenium ions. These reactive intermediates can participate in the stable formation of glycosidic lignin‐carbohydrate covalent linkages, promoting recalcitrance in plant biomass.

Therapeutic Effects of Stimulating the Melanocortin Pathway in Regulating Ocular Inflammation and Cell Death

open access: yesBiomolecules
Alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) and its binding receptors (the melanocortin receptors) play important roles in maintaining ocular tissue integrity and immune homeostasis.

Single administration of tripeptide α-MSH(11-13) attenuates brain damage by reduced inflammation and apoptosis after experimental traumatic brain injury in mice.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Following traumatic brain injury (TBI) neuroinflammatory processes promote neuronal cell loss. Alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) is a neuropeptide with immunomodulatory properties, which may offer neuroprotection.
