ALPHA-TOCOPHEROL AND ALPHA-TOCOPHEROL PHOSPHATE IN THE PROPHYLAXIS OF THROMBOEMBOLISM
Archives of Surgery, 1953IN THE first seven months of 1949, thromboembolic disease developed postoperatively in nine patients in the surgical service of the Snyder-Jones Clinic, Winfield, Kan., and two of these nine patients died with pulmonary embolism. During the summer of 1949, we learned of the work later reported by Ochsner, DeBakey, and DeCamp, and by Kay and his co ...

We wanted to determine whether alpha-tocopherol supplementation to pregnant rats could increase the concentration of alpha-tocopherol in maternal and fetal plasma and tissues. Pregnant rats were treated with alpha-tocopherol on days 18 and 19 gestation and studied at day 20. A control group was studied in parallel. Treatment of pregnant rats with alpha-

Preparation of natural alpha-tocopherol from non-alpha-tocopherols.
Journal of Zhejiang University. Science, 2005Non-alpha-tocopherols are hydroxymethylated and hydrogenated to produce alpha-tocopherol in one pot process by simultaneously reacting with paraformaldehyde and hydrogen in the presence of catalysts of benzenesulfonic acid and 5% Pd/C in an autoclave. Effects of various operation conditions have been studied.

Alpha-tocopherol stereoisomers.
Vitamins and hormones, 2007Vitamin E comprises a group of compounds possessing vitamin E activity. alpha-Tocopherol is the compound demonstrating the highest vitamin E activity, which is available both in its natural form as RRR-alpha-tocopherol isolated from plant sources, but more common as synthetically manufactured all-rac-alpha-tocopherol. Synthetic all-rac-alpha-tocopherol

Intracellular localization of alpha-tocopherol transfer protein and alpha-tocopherol.
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2005The mechanism of action of tocopherol transfer protein (TTP) and its role in the intracellular processing of vitamin E were investigated using confocal fluorescence microscopy. The results from this work suggest that TTP functions by transporting vitamin E from endocytic organelles to other locations in the cell.

Asymmetric synthesis of alpha-tocopherol.
Chemistry (Weinheim an der Bergstrasse, Germany), 2010Alpha-tocopherol was synthesized from a chiral intermediate alpha-hydroxy ester by means of two ring-closing methods to yield the chromanol in 94% diastereomeric excess.

Alpha-tocopherol in vegetable oils.
International journal for vitamin and nutrition research. Internationale Zeitschrift fur Vitamin- und Ernahrungsforschung. Journal international de vitaminologie et de nutrition, 1981The alpha-tocopherol concentration was determined in cooking vegetable oils. The lowest concentration of alpha-tocopherol was found in coconut oil. Soybean oil, peanut oil and rice bran oil showed similar ranges of alpha-tocopherol concentration. A high concentration of alpha-tocopherol was found in palm oil and in corn oil.

Liposomes with alpha-tocopherol membrane
1996Liposomes, closed spherical structures formed by phospholipid bilayers, have been recognized as a controlled drug delivery system. We have studied the preparation and biocompatibility of liposomes based on soya phospholipids encapsulated with alpha-tocopherol. The binding efficiency of alpha-tocopherol was analysed by comparing two methods for liposome
