A Berry-Esseen theorem for Pitman's $\alpha$-diversity

open access: yes, 2020
This paper is concerned with the study of the random variable $K_n$ denoting the number of distinct elements in a random sample $(X_1, \dots, X_n)$ of exchangeable random variables driven by the two parameter Poisson-Dirichlet distribution, $PD(\alpha ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Eigenvalues of Robin Laplacians in infinite sectors

open access: yes, 2017
For $\alpha\in(0,\pi)$, let $U_\alpha$ denote the infinite planar sector of opening $2\alpha$, \[ U_\alpha=\big\{ (x_1,x_2)\in\mathbb R^2: \big|\arg(x_1+ix_2) \big|0$.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Performance Characteristics of the Battery-Operated Silicon PIN Diode Detector with an Integrated Preamplifier and Data Acquisition Module for Fusion Particle Detection

open access: yesJournal of Nuclear Engineering
We present the performance and application of a commercial off-the-shelf Si PIN diode (Hamamatsu S14605) as a charged particle detector in a compact ion beam system (IBS) capable of generating D–D and p–B fusion charged particles.

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

The Impact of Climate Change on Biblical Interpretation and Theology [PDF]

open access: yesE-Journal of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences
This study investigates how climate change influences biblical interpretation and theology, with the aim of aligning ecological concerns with scriptural and doctrinal perspectives. Key goals include examining reinterpretations of scripture, assessing the

Alpha-thalassaemia.

open access: yesOrphanet journal of rare diseases, 2010
Alpha-thalassaemia is inherited as an autosomal recessive disorder characterised by a microcytic hypochromic anaemia, and a clinical phenotype varying from almost asymptomatic to a lethal haemolytic anaemia. It is probably the most common monogenic gene disorder in the world and is especially frequent in Mediterranean countries, South-East Asia, Africa,

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...
