Atmospheric Secondary Particles In Near Earth Space [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer detects a large amount of particles below rigidity cutoff. Those high energy particles create questions related to radiation belts and atmospheric neutrinos. To understand the origin of these particles, we use a trajectory

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

The Effect of Various Parameters on Measuring Alpha and Beta Particles from Soil Sample; An Environmental Dosimetry

open access: yesFrontiers in Biomedical Technologies
Purpose: The measurement of natural radioactive decay in environmental samples such as soil has received increasing importance in recent years. Proportional counters in the form of large-area planar detectors are widely used for the initial screening of

Rods are less fragile than spheres: Structural relaxation in dense liquids composed of anisotropic particles

open access: yes, 2012
We perform extensive molecular dynamics simulations of dense liquids composed of bidisperse dimer- and ellipse-shaped particles in 2D that interact via repulsive contact forces. We measure the structural relaxation times obtained from the long-time decay

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Search for the second forbidden beta decay of 8B to the ground state of 8Be

open access: yes, 2007
A significant decay branch of 8B to the ground state of 8Be would extend the solar neutrino spectrum to higher energies than anticipated in the standard solar models.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Investigating the role of alpha particles in gene expression levels of cytokines in rats infected with cystic echinococcosis [PDF]

open access: yesIraqi Journal of Veterinary Sciences
Hydatidosis is a widespread parasitic disease caused by larval stage protoscoleces of Echinococcus granulosus. The present study investigated the effect of protoscoleces after exposure to alpha particles on the expression of immune response-related genes
