Antisera specific for the .alpha.1, .alpha.2, .alpha.3, and .beta. subunits of the sodium-potassium ATPase: differential expression of .alpha. and .beta. subunits in rat tissue membranes

Biochemistry, 1989
We have developed a panel of antibodies specific for the alpha 1, alpha 2, alpha 3, and beta subunits of the rat Na,K-ATPase. TrpE-alpha subunit isoform fusion proteins were used to generate three antisera, each of which reacted specifically with a distinct alpha subunit isotype.

Allosteric communication between alpha and beta subunits of tryptophan synthase: Modelling the open-closed transition of the alpha subunit

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Proteins and Proteomics, 2006
Ligand binding to the alpha-subunit of the alpha2beta2 complex of tryptophan synthase induces the alphaloop6 closure over the alpha-active site. This conformational change is associated with the formation of a hydrogen bond between alphaGly181 NH group and betaSer178 carbonyl oxygen, a key event for the triggering of intersubunit allosteric signals ...

Alpha Subunit Position and GABA Receptor Function

Science's STKE, 2005
GABA A (γ-aminobutyric acid type A) receptors are ligand-gated ion channels composed of five subunits, generally two αs, two βs, and a γ2. Recent research in which sets of subunits containing α1 or α6 subunits were artificially linked has revealed the importance of subunit position in determining GABA A

Identification of a subunit contact site of the alpha-subunit of follitropin.

Peptide research, 1992
Using synthetic peptides, we previously identified portions of the lutropin alpha-subunit that are in contact with the beta-subunit. In order to elucidate structure/function differences of the glycoprotein hormones, a similar study was conducted for follitropin.

Specific dissociation of alpha B subunits from alpha-crystallin.

Biochimica et biophysica acta, 1989
Exposure of bovine alpha-crystallin to 0.1 M glycine at pH 7 decreases the average molar mass of the protein from 700 to 420 kDa. When the pH is lowered to 2.5, in the same buffer, the alpha B chains specifically dissociate from the aggregates, leaving a particle of 290 kDa containing only alpha A chains.

On the antigenic relationship between the alpha A and alpha B subunits of alpha-crystallin in bovine lens.

Current eye research, 1986
The immunochemical reactivities of the alpha A and alpha B subunits from bovine alpha-crystallin have been compared using 5 monoclonal antibodies and 2 polyvalent antisera. Each subunit bound the same maximum amount of antibody, regardless of its source, and each subunit was able to completely displace alpha-crystallin from its antibodies.

Sodium/potassium adenosine triphosphatase alpha-subunit and alpha-subunit mRNA levels in early rabbit embryos.

Biology of reproduction, 1990
Sodium/potassium adenosine triphosphatase (Na+/K+ ATPase) and Na+/K+ ATPase mRNA content of rabbit embryos during preimplantation development were evaluated. Changes in Na+/K+ ATPase alpha-subunit content were detected with Western blotting using polyclonal antiserum against guinea pig Na+/K+ ATPase.

Molecular cloning and expression of a new alpha-subunit of soluble guanylyl cyclase. Interchangeability of the alpha-subunits of the enzyme.

FEBS letters, 1992
A cDNA coding for a new subunit of soluble guanylyl cyclase with a calculated molecular mass of 81.7 kDa was cloned and sequenced. On the basis of sequence homology, the new subunit appears to be an isoform of the alpha 1-subunit and was designated alpha 2 as the new subunit is very similar to the alpha 1-subunit in the middle and C-terminal part; it ...
