Scientific Opinion on porcine epidemic diarrhoea and emerging porcine deltacoronavirus
In the last decade, many porcine epidemic diarrhoea (PED) outbreaks have been reported by several countries in Asia whereas only a few Member States of the European Union (EU) have reported PED clinical cases and/or PED virus (PEDV)‐seropositive animals.

Background Young pigs are often coinfected with porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) and porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV). This study aimed to determine the impact of coinfection of pigs with PCV2 and PEDV. Forty 16‐day‐old crossbred mixed‐sex piglets were assigned to four groups (n = 10/group, NEG‐CONTROL, PCV2‐CONTROL, PCV2+PEDV, and PEDV‐CONTROL).

IntroductionThe critical early stages of infection and innate immune responses to porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) at the intestinal epithelium remain underexplored due to the limitations of traditional cell culture and animal models.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV), an enteropathogenic coronavirus causing high mortality in neonatal piglets, continues to threaten global swine industries. Frequent mutations in the spike (S) protein of PEDV, particularly in emerging variants, have substantially compromised commercial vaccine efficacy.

Background Sarawak has one of the highest diversity of fruit bats species (family Pteropodidae) in Malaysia, with 19 species described. Most coronavirus (CoV) studies have mainly focused on insectivorous bats, resulting in a lack of information on CoVs ...

The Tetrahydroisoquinoline Derivative SP9 Exhibits Antiviral Activity Against PEDV and MHV
Coronaviruses exhibit high mutation rates and cross‐species transmissibility, posing a persistent threat to human and animal health and underscoring the urgent need for antivirals that can compensate for the limited crossprotection afforded by current vaccines.

Prevention of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus With Nanotube‐Adjuvanted Oral DNA Vaccines
Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) causes severe diarrhea in piglets. The ideal route of protection against PEDV for piglets is through passive (lactogenic) immunity, which is not provided by current inactivated and subunit vaccines on the market. In this study, we investigated whether a DNA vaccine encoding the full PEDV spike protein adjuvanted ...

A New Bat-HKU2–like Coronavirus in Swine, China, 2017
We identified from suckling piglets with diarrhea in China a new bat-HKU2–like porcine coronavirus (porcine enteric alphacoronavirus). The GDS04 strain of this coronavirus shares high aa identities (>90%) with the reported bat-HKU2 strains in ...

Porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV) infection causes watery diarrhea and even death in neonatal piglets, leading to substantial economic losses. Meanwhile, emerging evidence indicates the potential risk of PDCoV to threaten human health and public safety. However, the effective vaccines or medicines are deficient.

Whole‐Genome Characterization of Rodent Coronaviruses (RCoVs) in Thailand, 2024–2025
Rodents are recognized as important reservoirs of coronaviruses, contributing to viral diversity and potential zoonotic emergence. However, data on rodent coronaviruses (RCoVs) in Thailand remained limited. This study aimed to determine the prevalence, genetic characteristics, and phylogenetic relationships of RCoVs circulating in rodent populations ...
