Alcoholic extracts of Russian sage (Salvia yangii) contain bioactive terpenoids with inhibitory activity against grapevine downy mildew (Plasmopara viticola)

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Alcoholic extracts from flowers, leaves, and shoots of Russian sage decreased downy mildew severity on grapevine leaf disks. Fractionation followed by metabolomic analysis revealed putative terpenoids as the main components of the active fractions. Specifically, 7‐methylrosmanol, 12‐O‐methylcarnosic acid, carnosic acid, and carnosol were identified as ...

Exhaled Volatile Organic Compounds Identify Allergic Patients Among Individuals With Chronic Rhinitis

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
Exhaled decane and nonadecane discriminate allergic (AR + LAR) from non‐allergic (NAR + HC) subjects among individuals with chronic rhinitis. LAR patients display higher levels of exhaled nonadecane than NAR individuals at baseline. Subjects with FeNO≥ 25 ppb have higher levels of exhaled decane, nonanal, and styrene than individuals with FeNO < 25 ppb

Species diversity and molecular characterization of Alternaria section Alternaria isolates collected mainly from cereal crops in Canada

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
Alternaria is often one on the most abundant fungal genera recovered from a wide array of plant hosts and environmental substrates. Many species within the sub-generic Alternaria section Alternaria are common plant pathogens that cause pre-harvest losses

Transcriptomic profile of tobacco in response to Alternaria longipes and Alternaria alternata infections [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
AbstractTobacco brown spot caused by Alternaria fungal species is one of the most damaging diseases, and results in significant yield losses. However, little is known about the systematic response of tobacco to this fungal infection. To fill this knowledge gap, de novo assemblies of tobacco leaf transcriptomes were obtained in cultivars V2 and NC89 ...

MAIT Cells Suppress IgE‐Mediated Asthma via IFNγ‐Dependent B Cell Regulation

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
In this study, we demonstrate that MAIT cell antagonism during sensitization and challenge with HDM worsens the development of airway hyperreactivity without effects on type 2 or 17 associated cytokine production or lung inflammation. Rather, MAIT cells appear to regulate HDM‐induced asthma through direct inhibition of IgE production.

Two new diketopiperazines and a new glucosyl sesterterpene from Alternaria alternata, an endophytic fungi from Ceratostigma griffithii

open access: yes, 2015
Two diketopiperazine derivatives, altenarizines A (1) and B (2), and a new glucosyl sesterterpene, 24-alpha-D-glucosyl-( - )- terpestacin (3), together with two known phytotoxic sesterterpenes, ( - )-terpestacin (4) and fusaproliferin (5), were isolated ...

Natural History of Alternaria Sensitisation and Association With Asthma and Rhinitis From Childhood to Adulthood

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
We aimed to characterise Alternaria sensitisation trajectories from childhood to adulthood; we compared SPT, whole‐extract sIgE and rAlt a 1, and assessed their longitudinal association with asthma and rhinitis in the Isle of Wight birth cohort. Alternaria sensitisation in the Isle of Wight Birth Cohort emerges mainly in late adolescence and, when ...

Comparison of Four Systems to Test the Tolerance of ‘Fortune’ Mandarin Tissue Cultured Plants to Alternaria alternata

open access: yesPlants, 2021
Alternaria brown spot is a severe disease that affects leaves and fruits on susceptible mandarin and mandarin-like cultivars, and is produced by Alternaria alternata. Consequently, there is an urge to obtain new cultivars resistant to A.

Differentiation of Alternaria infectoria and Alternaria alternata based on morphology, metabolite profiles, and cultural characteristics

open access: yes, 1996
Some small-spored species belonging to the genus Alternaria Nees have been studied according to their chemical, morphological, and cultural characteristics. A data matrix was constructed based on a combination of characters.

Unfolding Plant Defence: Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress Signalling at the Plant‐Pathogen Interface

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response, a conserved proteostasis network, has emerged as a central hub that reprograms plant immunity during pathogen attack. This review synthesises how plants harness ER‐stress signalling to mount multilayered defences and how pathogens have evolved counterstrategies to subvert these pathways.
