ADI Compact Difference Scheme for the Two-Dimensional Integro-Differential Equation with Two Fractional Riemann–Liouville Integral Kernels

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
In this paper, a numerical method of a two-dimensional (2D) integro-differential equation with two fractional Riemann–Liouville (R-L) integral kernels is investigated. The compact difference method is employed in the spatial direction. The integral terms

Blade Count and Rotational Speed Sensitivity of Vertical‐Axis Turbines Under Guided Vehicle‐Generated Transient Wakes

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Passing vehicles generate short‐duration wakes that can be redirected toward a vertical‐axis turbine. The interaction between wake structure, blade count, and rotational speed governs transient torque production. Low‐solidity configurations combined with tuned rotational speed enhance energy extraction under vehicle‐induced gusts.

Numerical study of supersonic turbulent flow over small protuberances [PDF]

open access: yes
Supersonic turbulent boundary layers over two-dimensional protuberances are investigated, using the numerical finite difference alternating direction implicit (ADI) method. The turbulence is modeled mathematically.

A Matched Alternating Direction Implicit (ADI) Method for Solving the Heat Equation with Interfaces [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Scientific Computing, 2014
A novel Douglas alternating direction implicit (ADI) method is proposed in this work to solve a two-dimensional (2D) heat equation with interfaces. The ADI scheme is a powerful finite difference method for solving parabolic equations, due to its unconditional stability and high efficiency.

Stability Evaluation and Parametric Optimization of Coal‐Concrete Composite Bearing Systems Under Mine‐Water‐Induced Deterioration: Experiments and FEINN Analysis

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Mine‐water immersion tests reveal pronounced coal weakening (vs. minor concrete degradation), identifying coal pillars as the stability‐limiting component in composite dams. A coupled FEINN framework quantifies extreme‐pressure stability and ranks multi‐parameter designs via a normalized multi‐indicator scheme, enabling optimized dam configuration for ...

Numerical solution of a coupled pair of elliptic equations from solid state electronics [PDF]

open access: yes
Iterative methods are considered for the solution of a coupled pair of second order elliptic partial differential equations which arise in the field of solid state electronics. A finite difference scheme is used which retains the conservative form of the

Effect of Distributed Superficial-Velocity in Deep-Bed Grain Drying [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This paper deals with influence of velocity field distribution to heat and mass transfer process in deep bed grain dryers. Two-dimensional (2D) models of deep-bed grain dryers were built by considering simultaneously momentum, heat, and mass transfer in ...

Forecasting Count Data With Varying Dispersion: A Latent‐Variable Approach

open access: yesJournal of Forecasting, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Count data, such as product sales and disease case counts, are common in business forecasting and many areas of science. Although the Poisson distribution is the best known model for such data, its use is severely limited by its assumption that the dispersion is a fixed function of the mean, which rarely holds in real‐world scenarios.

Bio‐inspired nanophotonics: Structural color, chirality, and resonance metasurfaces

open access: yesInfoMat, EarlyView.
A butterfly‐wing‐inspired anisotropic plasmonic flatband resonant metasurface. Insets, photo of the butterfly, Sasakia charonda, and the SEM image of its wing scale (above); the SEM image of the metasurface (below). Abstract The dazzling colors of butterfly wings and hummingbird feathers are not painted with pigments, but crafted by nature's invisible ...
