Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Fifth-neighbor spin-spin correlator for the anti-ferromagnetic Heisenberg chain

open access: yes, 2005
We study the generating function of the spin-spin correlation functions in the ground state of the anti-ferromagnetic spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain without magnetic field.

The double alternating group explicit method for non-linear parabolic equations on MIMD parallel computers

open access: yesParallel Computing, 1992
The authors propose a new group explicit method and suggest how it may be used in parallel processing. While the method is stable it is not consistent.

Overview of molecular signatures of senescence and associated resources: pros and cons

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cells can enter a stress response state termed cellular senescence that is involved in various diseases and aging. Detecting these cells is challenging due to the lack of universal biomarkers. This review presents the current state of senescence identification, from biomarkers to molecular signatures, compares tools and approaches, and highlights ...

Half-sweep two parameter alternating group explicit iterative method applied to fuzzy Poisson equation

open access: yesApplied Mathematical Sciences, 2016
Iterative methods particularly the Two Parameter Alternating Group Explicit (TAGE) methods are used to solve system of linear equations generated from the discretization of two-point fuzzy boundary value problems (FBVPs). The formulation and implementation of the Full-Sweep TAGE (FSTAGE) and Half-Sweep TAGE (HSTAGE) methods are also presented.

Intrinsic symmetry groups of links with 8 and fewer crossings

open access: yes, 2011
We present an elementary derivation of the "intrinsic" symmetry groups for knots and links of 8 or fewer crossings. The standard symmetry group for a link is the mapping class group $\MCG(S^3,L)$ or $\Sym(L)$ of the pair $(S^3,L)$.

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Random Feature Maps via a Layered Random Projection (LaRP) Framework for Object Classification

open access: yes, 2016
The approximation of nonlinear kernels via linear feature maps has recently gained interest due to their applications in reducing the training and testing time of kernel-based learning algorithms.

Differential regulation of ZFAS1 splice variants by endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocyte cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...

The matrix product representations for all valence bond states

open access: yes, 2008
We introduce a simple representation for irreducible spherical tensor operators of the rotation group of arbitrary integer or half integer rank and use these tensor operators to construct matrix product states corresponding to all the variety of valence ...
