Tillandsia recurvata and its chemical value as an alternative use for feeding ruminants in northern Mexico

open access: yesJournal of Applied Animal Research, 2018
Tillandsia recurvata (Linnaeus) Linnaeus is an epiphyte that causes damage or death in trees. It is possible that the ruminant animals under extensive conditions can contribute to its control.

Food for thought ... on globalisation of alternative methods

open access: yesALTEX, 2007
Globalisation, the fact that national boundaries are loosing importance, is currently perceived in many fields – certainly also in the field of alternatives: We see that the idea of formal validation has spread from Europe to the USA to Japan and more recently to Korea with first developments in China, India, Russia, Brazil, etc.

Membrane composition and thermodynamic identity as boundaries of life for synthetic cell research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
What makes a cell a cell? The boundary of a living cell is not just a wall. Read as a Markov blanket, the membrane separates internal from external states, generating identity and non‐equilibrium order. Can this identity be rebuilt from scratch in a synthetic cell?

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Barley as an alternative to rice in dog food

open access: yesTURKISH JOURNAL OF VETERINARY AND ANIMAL SCIENCES, 2017
In this study, 30 mixed-breed, neutered, young adult male dogs at 15-30 kg live weights were used. The foods were produced at a special facility. Dog food produced using 25% barley had a gelatinized starch content significantly greater than that of food produced using 25% rice: 18.36% vs. 17.45%, respectively. No considerable difference was observed in

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.
