The “Eyeballing” technique : an emerging and alerting trend of alcohol misuse [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Alternative methods of alcohol consumption have recently emerged among adolescents and young adults, including the alcohol “eyeballing”, which consist in the direct pouring of alcoholic substances on the ocular surface epithelium.

Evolutionary optimization of optical antennas

open access: yes, 2012
The design of nano-antennas is so far mainly inspired by radio-frequency technology. However, material properties and experimental settings need to be reconsidered at optical frequencies, which entails the need for alternative optimal antenna designs ...

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

"Behavioral Aspects of Implementation Theory" [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper incorporates behavioral economics into implementation theory. We use mechanisms that are strictly detail-free. We assume that each agent dislikes telling a white lie when such lying does not serve her/his material interest.

Searching for Better Plasmonic Materials

open access: yes, 2010
Plasmonics is a research area merging the fields of optics and nanoelectronics by confining light with relatively large free-space wavelength to the nanometer scale - thereby enabling a family of novel devices.

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.

Study of mechanical properties of multilayer composite plastic blocks with various materials

open access: yesJournal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering
Plastic waste is considered a global environmental disaster due to its extensive negative impacts on ecosystems, human health, and the overall well-being of the planet. Approximately 91% of plastic waste, including multi-layer plastic (MLP), is yet to be

Production of mutants affected in hormone signalling to dissect defence mechanisms in Hevea brasiliensis: the case of ethylene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Production of mutants by genetic transformation is one alternative to dissect the response to hormonal treatment. Ethylene is an important plant hormone involved in latex production.
