Towards Sustainable Inorganic Polymers: Production and Use of Alternative Activator

open access: yesMaterials Proceedings, 2022
Inorganic polymers are considered to have a much smaller CO2 footprint than traditional Portland cements. The possible environmental impact reduction was calculated to be up to 77% of a CEMI ordinary Portland cement (OPC)-based mortar, while the CO2 ...

Magnesium-Containing Slurry as Technogenic Alternative Raw Material for Magnesium Oxychloride Cement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
It has been shown experimentally that a waste of magnesium metal production is a realistic alternative to naturally occurring cement raw materials. The waste is the carnallite slurry forming during the chlorination stage.

Material Offshoring: Alternate Measures

open access: yesReview of Income and Wealth, 2015
Industry measures of offshoring of material inputs are often generated using the proportionality assumption applied to aggregate import data—that the import share of each commodity used in the production process for a particular industry is similar to the import share of a commodity for the total economy.

Alternate shield material feasibility [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
The feasibility and cost/benefit of using materials other than stainless steel for in-vessel neutron shielding in large LMFBRs were investigated. Canned vibratorally compacted B/sub 4/C powder shields were found to be much more economical than stainless steel (a savings of $1.1M in loop plant designs and $9.4M in pool plant designs).

Alternative Antimicrobial Approach: Nano-Antimicrobial Materials [PDF]

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 2015
Despite numerous existing potent antibiotics and other antimicrobial means, bacterial infections are still a major cause of morbidity and mortality. Moreover, the need to develop additional bactericidal means has significantly increased due to the growing concern regarding multidrug-resistant bacterial strains and biofilm associated infections ...

Why and When Are Evidence‐Based Interventions Adopted in Paediatric Supportive Care? A Qualitative Exploration of the Determinants of Photobiomodulation Implementation

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Oral mucositis is a common and debilitating side effect of childhood cancer and stem cell transplant treatments. It affects the quality of life of children and young people (CYP) and places a strain on services. Photobiomodulation is recommended for oral mucositis prevention in international guidance but is poorly implemented in UK ...

Massive binaries and the enrichment of the interstellar medium in globular clusters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Abundance anomalies observed in globular cluster stars indicate pollution with material processed by hydrogen burning. Two main sources have been suggested: asymptotic giant branch stars and massive stars rotating near the break-up limit.

Assessing High- and Low-Temperature Properties of Asphalt Pavements Incorporating Waste Oil Shale as an Alternative Material in Jilin Province, China

open access: yesSustainability, 2018
This study investigates the feasibility of recycling waste oil shale as an alternative material into asphalt pavements in Jilin province, China. The highand low-temperature properties of asphalt materials play important roles for asphalt pavements in ...

Personalized Selumetinib Dosing in Pediatric Neurofibromatosis Type 1: Insights From a Pilot Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate selumetinib exposure using therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) in pediatric patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and plexiform neurofibromas (PN), assess interpatient pharmacokinetic variability, and explore the relationship between drug exposure, clinical response, and adverse effects.
