Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Synthesis of Some Novel 11b-Substituted Pyrimido[6,1-a]-isoquinoline Derivatives

open access: yesMolecules, 2004
A series of novel 11b-substituted 1,6,7,11b-tetrahydropyrimido[6,1-a]- isoquinoline-2,4-diones and 4-thioxo-1,3,4,6,7,11b-hexahydropyrimido[6,1-a]isoquinolin-2- ones were synthesized, utilizing two alternative strategies for ring closure of ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

The Synthetic Access to Fused 6,7,8,9-Tetrahydro- 5H-pyridoazepines: Evaluation of Ring-Closure Strategies

open access: yesЖурнал органічної та фармацевтичної хімії
The synthetic accessibility of fused pyridoazepane frameworks was investigated through a series of strategies designed to construct differently fused azepane systems. Several precursor designs enabling alternative ring-closure topologies were explored. A

The alternative reality of plant mitochondrial DNA: One ring does not rule them all.

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2019
Plant mitochondrial genomes are usually assembled and displayed as circular maps based on the widely-held view across the broad community of life scientists that circular genome-sized molecules are the primary form of plant mitochondrial DNA, despite the

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Carbon–nitrogen transmutation in polycyclic arenol skeletons to access N-heteroarenes

open access: yesNature Communications
Developing skeletal editing tools is not a trivial task, and realizing the corresponding single-atom transmutation in a ring system without altering the ring size is even more challenging.

Investigation into the Impact of n-Decane, Decalin, and Isoparaffinic Solvent on Elastomeric Sealing Materials

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2012
One of the crucial aspects in the adoption of alternative fuels (e.g., GtL fuel) in aviation industry is to investigate their compatibility with elastomeric materials used in current gas turbine engines. This study employed stress relaxation technique to

Minimally invasive treatment for anterior pelvic ring injuries with modified pedicle screw-rod fixation: a retrospective study

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2018
Background Pelvic ring injuries constitute only 2 to 8% of all fractures; however, they occur in 20% of polytrauma patients. High-energy pelvic fractures often result in mechanical instability of the pelvic ring.

On free alternative rings

open access: yesJournal of Combinatorial Theory, 1967
AbstractAn example is presented that ansevers in the negative the question of whether the square of every commutator need always lie in the nucleus. Also, we show the existence of specific nilpotent elements in the free alternative ring on four or more generators, and prove abstractly the existence of an ideal I≠0, and I2=0.
