Flex-Gears [PDF]

open access: yes
Flex-Gears are being developed as an alternative to brushes and slip rings to conduct electricity across a rotating joint. Flex-Gears roll in the annulus of sun and ring gears for electrical contact while maintaining their position by using a novel ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

On free alternative rings

open access: yesJournal of Combinatorial Theory, 1967
AbstractAn example is presented that ansevers in the negative the question of whether the square of every commutator need always lie in the nucleus. Also, we show the existence of specific nilpotent elements in the free alternative ring on four or more generators, and prove abstractly the existence of an ideal I≠0, and I2=0.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Estimation of process capability based on continuous and attribute data

open access: yesTehnički Glasnik, 2019
In the paper, a process capability and process performance analyses for continuous and attribute data are conducted by using an industry example. The inner diameter of the bearing rings is analysed by applying the normal capability analysis for the ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Experimental Characterization and Numerical Optimization of 3D-Printed PA6-CF External Fixator Rings

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing
This research investigated the feasibility of 3D-printed external fixator (EF) rings made from carbon fiber reinforced polyamide 6 (PA6-CF) as an alternative to the conventional metallic counterpart.

Application of [Hydroxy(tosyloxy)iodo]benzene in the Wittig-Ring Expansion Sequence for the Synthesis of β-Benzocyclo-alkenones from α-Benzocycloalkenones

open access: yesMolecules, 2005
The conversion of α-benzocycloalkenones to homologous β-benzocyclo-alkenones containing six, seven and eight-membered rings is reported. This wasaccomplished via a Wittig olefination-oxidative rearrangement sequence using[hydroxy(tosyloxy)iodo ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

The ALMA survey to Resolve exoKuiper belt Substructures (ARKS)

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Dusty discs detected around main-sequence stars are thought to be signs of planetesimal belts in which the dust distribution is shaped by collisional and dynamical processes, including interactions with gas if present. The debris disc around the
